Yes, Art is winding down the business. He has some components left and doesn't want to order more. If you want one, you had best contact him ASAP as the supply is limited. http://www.digi-panel.com/

He is willing to sell the business. I don't know how big the market is for these but I would think one of our electrical gurus might be interested in taking it over.

We have units in our inventory and will be meeting with Art soon unless one of you will buy him out
Our price is same so going to him is not any advantage other than you don't like doing business with us.
We put back lot to the GMC community that your not aware of
Call me and let me tell you all we do to promote the GMC coaches so it maintains value.
I'm sorry if you guys do not get that.
I'm not the only one, people like ; Bounds, Sirim, Tovio, Pattetson, Jenkins, Ferrara, Slaten,Massey,Black, and many others make your coach valuable , along with organizations like GMC Internatioal, Western States,Eastern States, and your local clubs.
I know this, what I say here is supported by Bounds, Sirim and others.

Love to get feedback on this as it is vital that owners realize thing like
the Land Speed Record by a GMC brings to increasing exposure and awareness
to our coaches.
Bounds updating and innovating coaches helps bring attention, people taking
coaches to car shows again brings awareness and attention.
We as owners reap the efforts as it will keep the value up as more people
will acquire them.

And if you get up a group order, you can fast talk Kanomata and he might even discount them a bit - did for some of us.

I wouldn't mind putting some together, but I suspect some of the chips are now obsolete. This would require a redesign.

Sorry Jim, I didn't know you stocked them. If you had let me know after I mentioned it in my first post about my trip, I would have ordered it from you. 2 days delivery vs 2 weeks from Art would have worked. And he's local.
I haven't done a complete examination of your catalogue. (And I wouldn't remember all the items anyway) But don't worry, I have a list of stuff I intend to order from you shortly.

I guess I'm going to ruffle some feathers here but, Art is still part of the GMC community so...

Johnny,
When I finally got around to installing my JimK supplied Digipanel last winter, I opened the case to check out the circuitry. The design is old using bar-graph chips to drive the LED displays and wire lead components.

The circuitry could certainly be simplified and cleaned up using a micro-controller and surfaced mounted components. I don't know if there is sufficient market these days for the investment in boards and housings to make it worthwhile.

Was talking to a GMCER last week that had a digi panel and gages. Driving
in hot weather and noticed a loss of power. Looked at the temp gage and it
was pegged on the hot side. Pulled over to the side and was greeted by
steam coming from the engine compartment. Reentered the coach and the
digital alarm finally sounded. Blown headgasket. No warning from the
digi-panel until all the damage was done. Don't put much faith in those
things, personally.

mine works just fine. Test it now and again, and the alarm gets tested ever time I crank the coach. Gopt to wonder where the gent had the temp sensor attached and whether he'd tested it. Unfortunate, but it points up, people don't see gauges... but will hear a squawk or see an idiot light.
As to a redesign, I'll leave that to someone else, I got too many irons in the fire right now. I expect the box is the most expensive part of the system. You could build one off eBay for not a lot of trouble and expense, excepting the enclosure. Whether you could do so for the 225 price is debateable... I doubt you could if you include the enclosure punched and lettered.

This is the sort of thing MFJ in Starkville MS ought to be making - he turns out relatively inexpensive low volume electronics.

Raspberry Pi's not quite there yet, or at least I haven't found it. Materials < $100 for a multi-sensor system. But at minimum wage, it'd come in at the same price as the digipanel.

Arduino might also. But, you ahve to work out the display and buy the display, and digitize the oil pressure, and.....
Someone showed a glass dashboard, reminiscent of the glass panels we see in aviation. Since they don't have to be TSO'ed, they could use cheeep displays from the heathen chinee and non-exact thermistors and pressure chips.
I leave it to those of you who spend more time with computers than me. I can do BCC and NOP on a 6502 and that's the extent of my microprocessor expertise.

--johnny

for the great unwashed, BCC = Branch on Carry Clear, NOP = No Operation. Widely used instructions for the 6502 microprocessor. 0-jb

Scott Nutter, there you have it. You wanted info on the Digi-Panel.
If you want one, JimK has some in stock. Art might have enough pieces to put another one together. And, it looks like once these are gone, they will be history.

Based on what I've read on all the GMC sites, the Digi-Panel is as accurate and dependable as any, and I like the compactness. It will set right in the middle above the speedo and gauge clusters until I re-do the dash. But, that will be after the electric wipers, electronic speedo - cruise, and the steering column.

Will it never end???

The hard part is the analog front end to read resistance accurately in the nasty automotive environment, you have to know what you're doing.
the digital side is the easy part

Here is a digital temp sensor already weatherproofed in a s/s probe and a 6' whip for $3+. This is the DS18b20 sensor, ultra-popular with the RPi and Arduino groupies. (Popular because they are dependable, cheap, AND you can daisy-chain them on one bus.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EU70ZL8/

I think I found an oil-pressure sensor, too, but don't have the link handy.

Pressure sensing is a bit of a problem. You can use the stock (unreliable any more) sensor, or you can use a solid state sensor but must gin up a pressure connection - a move fraught with potential peril. Temps are relatively easy by comparison.

One quote from the RPi forums where digital engine monitoring is a regular topic:

"The engine has water temprature and oil pressure transducers, which are supplied with power from the old analogue gagues, and output an analog voltage signal back to the gauges. I plan on using the analogue to digital inputs on an Arduino to read these transducers, and send them to a Pi over the I2C bus. The Arduino can also monitor battery and altenator voltages, and send them to the Pi. To detect engine RPM, I'm looking at a piece of reflective tape on the crankshaft pully, along with an optical sensor connected to a GPIO pin, so that the Pi can count the pulses"

I guess this is the converter
https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/analog-to-digital-conversion

As for displaying, I want it to write a local web page so I can read it with anything and roll my own layouts. App dependency would be an inferior second choice. We're getting there. Here's one I'm watching --uses PHP to generate HTML

https://spunkytechnology.com/2016/06/ds18b20-temperature-sensor-with-raspberry-pi/

At any rate, there's no way I'd invest in the digipanel at this stage of the game.

You said you were thinking of using reflective tape for engine RPMs? I was
thinking (not as quickly as you I'll bet) that I could use the Tach output
from the distributor for RPM and output from the cruise control transducer
for a speedometer - I don't know how to do either one yet tho. Fan RPM
would be the output from that tape but that would be really interesting for
some of the fan clutch discussions around here. My first try at an
Arduino-based instrument is an engine temp gauge using a full-sweep (2
wires) sender. It works on the breadboard with a 2.8" color screen and I
hope to install it before I leave for Coos Bay next week.
