Left the house in a hurry and forgot to bring the Parts Interchange book,
so... if somebody could please let me know the part numbers for the transmission filter kit,
and final drive gasket, that’d be great! thanks…
(I got them recently for the Eleganza, and figured i should do the Birchhaven while i’m
on a roll. Have to call in a day or 2 in advance to get them...
(And ‘if’ we are going to BurningMan, then time is of the essence).
Thanks in advance!

Greg,
You want to get a Felpro RDS-55034.
http://www.carid.com/fel-pro/automatic-transmission-differential-carrier-gasket-mpn-rds55034.html
Jim K also has this gasket in stock. http://www.appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/707
or your local parts store.

Black RTV by itself is a bad choice as the diff needs to breath and the Felpro gasket is a 2 piece unit stapled together with a vent path to the vent hole on the cover. Without the vent the built up pressure of the heated Lub oil can be pushed out the side seals. You can use light aplication of black RTV but I use the Permatex “The Right Stuff” black one minute gasket. There are no gaskets available (if you find one it is made out of unobtainium) for the 3.21 housing as it is a 8 bolt unit compared to the 3.07 and up 10 bolt housing. I just change the fluid in my 3.21 final yesterday and it has an added vent and internal shield inside on top of the metal cover. Next time that I take it off this fall to go with the 8 bolt Ragusa cover I will take pictures. The Ragusa 3.21 does not have a vent in the cover and I am designing a piece to take care of that and will shoot pictures of that also when finished.

If you have the 10 bolt final, DO NOT use rtv as it takes a special gasket
to let it vent out through the cover plate.
Just ask for the final drive cover for 76 Toronado.
The 8 bolt cover will work using the rtv as it does not have a vent on the
cover.

If you buy a gasket for one of our final drives and it does not have the vent path cut in it, take it back.
That used to be MY Part and it did then. If it has been left out then some Bozo forgot to put that punch back in (again).

Thanks all,
Yeah, i tried requesting these parts for “ ’76 Olds Toronado”, but sometimes they don’t get a match

> I use Wix 58882 for the transmission

Thanks Espen, i practically had that number memorized…

Thanks JR, and Matt,
Just put one of these on the Eleganza a couple weeks ago, and noticed the vent path, definitely note of that :)
I thought Autozone might have a record of my “special order” for this part, but they only have records for parts that come with warranties

OK, armed with these numbers, here we go! Thanks again
Greg
