Of the three brands I have personally used the Blue Sea unit made in Bellingham, WA, appears to be the most robust and likely able to carry the most current when it has to. It also has a disconnect on start feature built in. The Yandina appears to me to be the least robust and least able to withstand much amperage. The Victron appears to stand in the middle in this regard.

I think you may have just identified how they get blown-up. I have installed lots of these on owner's boat and replaced a good number too, and I
could never figure out what killed them.
