I'm all for the synthetic lubs as they outperform the standard.
We are noticing that the older standard final drives with over 120,000
miles are beginning to to fail at the pinion bearing.
I know Manny T has seen where this issue has caused the transmission output
to be damaged.
Most people have never changed the gear lub at all.

Rob,
Almost all the cores we get back are in sad condition.
Most have not even added fluid, muchless changed it during the lifetime.

Well I think that the GM engineer didn't think it was needed to change the FD oil.
Or the life of the coach wouldn't be that long as to need change.
It's messy with no drain plug. Removing the cover, cleaning the gasket, cramp quarters to work.
On all my vehicles I have added a drain plug to trans, diff (FD) on my first change, then it's a piece of cake.
Oils do need to be changed occasionally.

Actually they did have a recommendation on Fluid changes for the coaches. If you go to the MM X-7525 on page 0-6 Lub and gen maint chart, also page 0-7, para 8 the recommendation are listed. With the newer sythnetic base lubs the intervals can be extended somewhat longer, but not forever. The drain plug was a missed chance to make it easier. Not hard just messy, I have had the Ragusa covers on all the coaches that I have owned and they make it much easier to do the fluid changes.
