I see that '73 and '74 lower control arms (LCAs) are not acceptable as cores for one ton conversions. So, what are the differences and, are E body (Eldo/Toro) the same or different than TZEs? And what if/can you beef them up like I saw in a recent link? Just wondering in case I come across a '75 - '77 Eldo/Toro donor. Thanks in advance.

All I see on the Applied web site is that 73 and 74 control arms are not accepted as core returns for refurbished control arms ( http://www.appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/647 }. Nothing about that in the verbage for the one-ton ( http://www.appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/635 )
I figured when they do a one-ton, they cut off the weak/questionably re-inforced end so the year model is irrelevant.
Maybe I am wrong?
The reason for the old arms not being acceptable as cores is the answer to your question. The first year models used unmodified Toronado/Eldorado arms, and they weren't strong enough. Later arms were re-inforced by the factory, and 73s and 74s were recalled, with some not responding to the recall and the ones that were re-inforced were done right only part of the time.
It takes more effort to fix an incorrectly re-inforced arm than the GMC vendors can expend and still make a profit. Ditto the ones that are not re-inforced that are cracked.
So they simply refuse to deal with them.
If you want to put newer arms on a 73 or 74, you could coordinate with someone with a newer model getting a one-ton to swap your arms with their arms so they can send yours back as cores leaving you with newer arms.
Unless it was an oversight on the Applied web page and you can't use arms from a 73 or 74 as one-ton cores.

The earlier ones were not reinforced at few areas. The cost to redue them
is not worth it.

At one time Manny actually preferred the later model Toro/Eldro lower control arms. Get in touch with him direct to get the particulars. If you have the 73-74 arms next to the 75 up there is a noticeable difference.
