I sent a email to redhead steering asking about the steering box on my 77 gmc motorhome.Just to clarify, I have no intention of doing anything until I have spoken to our gmc suppliers or our gmc people. The following is the conversation. What is with the hydro driven wipers affecting the steering...maybe the filter in that little pipe being clogged affects steering?...original wipers work fine...At one time I tried to unscrew that pipe...it did not come apart easily so I just left it alone.Brian 77 ele 455

It sounds to me like you have a worn out gear. We can send you a new gear, but with motor homes it is best to send them in to have them rebuilt, the stops in the housing vary and there is no way to know what they are without taking the gear apart.

Call me and I'll explain the wiper motor thing to you, at as the best that I can.

I think I will have to replace my steering box or gea,r if that is the correct terminology , because I have replaced all front end components except steering box, and the thing wanders down the highway . When I correct the steering at 50 mph I have to wait and see if it is coming back to the center of lane or not yet or too much correction . I can not drive it. Yes. I have hydro wipers... What exactly are you talking about with the htdro wiper and how they affect steering...thanks...Brian 1977 GMC motorhome

Why are you considering changing your steering gear? The reason I ask is because, if you still have the hydro driven windshield wipers, that can be causing a problem with the steering gear.
