Hello,
when I switch on monitor on the system monitor panel, it lights up the
water pump switch. Does that give an indication as to where my current
non-functioning system monitor has an issue?

Peer,
I would say your water pump light and the monitor display is sharing the same ground and that ground connection is poor.
When you turn on your monitor, the ground is poor and goes to 12Volts (or some voltage much higher than ground). The lamp ground is connected to the monitor ground and so it goes high too. This voltage then finds its way back through the lamp to the water pump motor and to an actual ground causing the water pump lamp to light up.
Find the ground point for these two grounds, clean it and everything should work!
Just my farmboy mechanic troubleshooting.
