I've seen several references to ABS cement, but the only one I can find locally is a black Oakey ABS cement. Does the "normal" PVC pipe cement work just as well?
Also, I've seen many recommendations on sealants for different parts of the coach. Has anyone done a comprehensive "cheat sheet"?
Thanks,

Decatur, IN What are you going to use the cement on? PVC and ABS are different, and you can't use PVC cement on ABS, and vice versa. Last time I did some drain plumbing work, I bought some stuff that said it could be used to glue ABS and PVC together called "ABS PVC Green Transition Cement" (or something like that). There is also some multi purpose stuff that says it can be used with ABS, PVC and CPVC. But I wouldn't use it to glue ABS to PVC. Should work fine for gluing ABS to ABS or PVC to PVC.
Why can't you use the black stuff from Oatey?

I'm trying to fix cracks on the endcaps gluing fiberglass strips as per many suggestions, plus a couple of other small plastic pieces for other spots in the interior.
The Oakey black ABS cement isn't available in the local big box or hardware stores, only the PVC pipe cement which says it's OK for ABS but I don't want to compromise, re do, or experiment.
Pictures of end cap repairs appear to use the yellow all purpose glue, not anything black.
On the sealants, I thought silicone was the best for outside leaks until reading several posts, abhorring the use of silicon.
I've seen a few recommendations, but it gets confusing depending on what you are applying it to, inside or out.
Thanks,
Jim

If you are patching the interior front and rear caps, suggest that you work a layer of fiberglass tape into your plans. It will help reinforce the cap and slow the spread on the cracks. You might find correct cement at a marine supply store. I believe that is where I obtained mine.
