My 78 GMC with 403 engine started leaking oil where the distributer goes into the engine block Any ideas as to cause and cure?
Engine is original with 110,000 miles and runs beautifully. Thanks for all of the help we get on this forum.

There are two things that hold the oil back; O Ring on the round housing
and the round flat gasket.
You probably have a plugged up PVC valve and or the filter that is attached
to the left side valve cover.
That is causing some pressure build up in the case.

If it is the o-ring and/or gasket you will have to pull the distributor. Double check that the leak is not coming from the back of the intake manifold.

If it were mine and I like where the distributor timing is currently set, I would do as Mike says. I would also throw a timing light on it and see exactly where the timing is now. Then after reinstalling the distributor I would set the timing to exactly the same point as it is now.
