Ok, I've cleaned the nasties out of two OEM fans and what a difference. The third,in the bedroom is inoperable, so I bought a Fantastic Fan as a replacement. The IEM fan frame has rounded corners on the top and if you are underneath looking up. I removed the lid, then all screws from the topside. It will not budge. Upon further investigation, the rounded corner aluminum is somehow fastened to an outer, square cornered aluminum frame visible only from below. I can not see how it is fastened to the coach.

It appears as though the headliner must be removed to get to the squared section of the OEM fan frame. Please say it ain't so???

P.S. For Kelly, my '78 Eleganza II also has a single A/C unit and the monsters us 59amp cable. It's a hassle, but it worth changing in my opinion. If you do replace the plug end, I would recommend one with a handle to unplug so the handle takes the strain, not the wires or connections/screws (DAMHIK). The one I got in made by Camco with a Power Grip handke, it's all yellow.
