Ok, I've cleaned the nasties out of two OEM fans and what a difference. The third,in the bedroom is inoperable, so I bought a Fantastic Fan as a replacement. The IEM fan frame has rounded corners on the top and if you are underneath looking up. I removed the lid, then all screws from the topside. It will not budge. Upon further investigation, the rounded corner aluminum is somehow fastened to an outer, square cornered aluminum frame visible only from below. I can not see how it is fastened to the coach.

It appears as though the headliner must be removed to get to the squared section of the OEM fan frame. Please say it ain't so???

P.S. For Kelly, my '78 Eleganza II also has a single A/C unit and the monsters us 59amp cable. It's a hassle, but it worth changing in my opinion. If you do replace the plug end, I would recommend one with a handle to unplug so the handle takes the strain, not the wires or connections/screws (DAMHIK). The one I got in made by Camco with a Power Grip handke, it's all yellow.

I believe there are screws at each corer from the inside that will release
the original through the top.
You do NOT need to remove the head liner, just trim it to fit the square
corners of the new.
Let me know should you need more info.

Tony,

The screws on top are the only fasteners(beside whatever dried adhesive or sealant was used) holding the unit on.
Once removed you need to cut the corners to make them square.
Set up the ground wire before installing the new vent.

Careful with that camco Plug. I could never get the wires to stay connected inside. I ended up soldering the wires/screws, and filling the plug with epoxy after about the 9th time they came loose. I do like he handle on it.

Marinco- and one other brand make a yellow handled 50 amp plug as well. I bought one of those and put on an extension cord a month ago. Alot better plug then the camco, but still easy to solder the wires in, and fill it full of epoxy to make sure no one gets zapped or a fire stated.

as for the fans, a metal blade on a jig saw makes easy work out of the corners. not sure what would be holding it on other then the screws up top, and the sealant, but I do not remember when i changed out my front one, as that was one of the first things I did to the coach. I do know I did not take the ceiling panels down at all.

screws up top, and the sealant,

I've been told to put a small wood block inbetween the outer shell and
the ceiling. Screw into it from the top, screw into it from the bottom
and your fantastic fan install will hold up your ceiling as well.

Be careful with the Camco yellow handles. They can and will break. I've broken 2 and I am not Superman.
