Put a 1 inch strip of fiberglass cloth. Or any cloth for that matter along the top front edge of the cap to prevent cracks from starting. First put some ABS pipe cement on the cap. Then the cloth. Next, more ABS cement. Dries in a few hours. Then install the machine screws. Personally. I wouldn't use pop rivets. Self drill tap screws was my method with the machine screws.
