Howdy everyone. We are the proud new owners of "BUC," and have been
thoroughly enjoying this, our first major outing. We drove at a leisurely
pace from our home in the Texas Hill Country to the beautiful Pacific
Northwest. Our adventure had ben trouble free except for a failed starter
solenoid on the 4th of July weekend. I was able to successfully do that
repair myself.

However, yesterday morning as we were pulling out onto a rural highway, we
found ourselves literally dead in the road. A front control arm snapped
and the drivers side wheel broke loose from the frame, instantly bringing
us to an abrupt stop.

We were on a remote Forest Service road with no sell service on either our
AT&T or Verizon phones. Fortunately, a local resident came to our rescue,
and Good Sam was called to the rescue. After a long day of mostly waiting
for a lost wrecker drive to finally find us, we were safely towed to
Eugene, Oregon, arriving about sundown on Sunday evening. This morning
"BUC" was delivered to Trisand, Inc., a large truck repair facility on the
edge of Eugene.

They spent most of the morning getting the coach safely on ramps at the
rear, and stands at the front. I was determined that most of the parts
needed were available locally *except *for the lower control arm.

Any advice and suggestions on being sure the procedure is done correctly,
AND any help in locating the discontinued GMC part number 792769?

Thanks,
Vern (and Lenore)

Vern and Lenore,

Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum...

I am sorry to hear you are broken down, but nobody is injured and the required parts will be along soon. It also sounds like you have competent help. That is about all anybody can ask for anytime.

You found your way here and that is good and you are about to learn what the true power of the GMC community is, and how it works. You are still a little early for west coast time, but give it a little and watch out. You already have JimK (Applied GMC) working for you and you are about to have all the owners in the Pacific Northwest on line too. You will get parts in pretty short order.

I hope you are carrying a copy of the GMC Assist (aka Black's) list and the service information with you. What ever you need can be downloaded from the GMC site. If you have questions about your coach, this it the place to get the right answers. Never be afraid to ask. You may get an answer straight up or you may be directed to something already published, but it will be a good answer.

This is a community like very few others. These are helping and supporting people and it does not seem to be that they just welcome a fellow addict. In actual fact the only other that I know of it that of the watermen that are my world. For that reason, I have taken to welcoming new owners when they arrive much as a new owner or vessel is welcomed there. So,

May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.
Welcome Vern and Lenore

Matt

Vern,

Lower control arms are the same as Eldo and Toro up to
1978 except for the ball joint, which has a bigger stud.
Since they're getting scarce on the used market, you
might call Kanomata and see if he can overnight one
to you. Quick and easy.

The original a-arms were the same as Toronados, but later were re-inforced and are not the same. The Tornado arms fail, like the one in the original post.

He needs to call Jim K at 1-800-752-7502 and order what he needs

Well through a round about way Migule of MGM GMC called me to and asked me
to call Vern and supply him the A frame this AM.
Spoke with Vern and found he was broken down in Eugene , OR,
I contacted people close to the town as Vern wanted it overnight.
Found one in Portland suburb at DJ Eberhart and requested he handle the
transaction with him direct.
Black list is fine, but I know key players in most of the USA so I've been
able to assist numerous people.
I'll need to contact the shop and advise him how to do the job easily, a
trick Alex Sirum taught me.
