Our coach will be headed to Orlando on Friday to so the Jim's team can inspect her and we can come up with a repair plan. so here are the issues / decision points, I know many of you have faced these same questions so any input is greatly appreciated:

1.Wheels- She has the 16.5 Weld wheels and needs new tires so the first decision is Alcoas or Jimk's Eagles. My previous experience with the chromed cap lug nuts is they are a PITA and I much prefer stainless. That and the price has me leaning toward the Eagles, although the difference in price over the next 20 yrs I plan on enjoying the GMC is peanuts. My goal is achieve the most reliable and highest quality vehicle I can.

2. Tires- for the new wheels

3. Paint- . I am poring over every one I can find. I really like the original grill and headlight buckets versus the body color and since the wrecked cracked the grill I might as well address that. I love the frameless window but I think they will bust the budget. My trip in 95 degree weather also convinced me of the value of a visor. I am also thinking about removing the front clearance marker lights and replacing them with this

http:// www.cjponyparts.com/starkey-grille-lighting-kit-raptor-style-f-150-2015-2016/p/GL2/?year=2015&gclid=Cj0KEQjwt-G8BRDktsvwpPTn1PkBEiQA-MRsBeRtCElPA7 bzeQVJYCI4mzKZczz9Ph9ZLhfjCXRZChIaAkVm8P8HAQ

4. MAC Dash- the beloved PO installed numerous switches such as a separate one to power up the AC fan, controls for the switch pitch trans, a separate power switch for the radio etc. there are also several towing related switches and controls that the owner was unable to explain due to a failing memory.

5. Headliner- my wife is not a big fan of the hull liner ceiling and wants it replaced.

6. I am also going to have the coach's mechanicals and systems inspected since my broken shoulder is keeping me from doing most of it. I am concerned about the front end since the left front took a direct hit but the wheel is straight and it drove fine on the 5 hrs drive back home.

Issues- generator will not start from inside and is stalling after approx 5 -10 min run time and is very hot. Fridge will not work on gas, cools great on electric. I know that one would be an easy kill but I can't hardly work on anything till, the end of August when I start physical therapy.

1. I'm perfectly happy with the Eagles on both of mine. Newer Alcoa copies are hub centered, older are lug centered. Hafta use the extended lugs on the latter, or get a psacer made.

2. There is much discussion. Ever body has his fave. In point of fact, unless you stay on the road, you're going to throw them to Craigslist before they wear out. L ike the Coopers I have.

3. As long as you have the Yankee inshoance guys paying for it, paint and accessorize to your satisfaction.

4. My PO did the same. But didn't trust Mac and added mechanical gauges on the knee lip. I pulled all the switches except the two for trans and oil coolers. Come wintertime, I might not want them running.

5. Sirum put a thin plywood backed carpet on my23' headliner - looks good and cuts noise. Bounds' guys can do this als.

6. Again, Bounds' guys can do all this reliably and the coach is there anyway. If it becomes necessary to sic a lawyer upon them in Alabama, let me recommend David McDowell in Prattville. Use my name and follow his advice (he may recommend someone or take it himself)

Issues - Look at genset timing and carburetion, assuming it has plenty of oil. Since it took a lick, make sure the cooling fan didn't lose any fins or get trash in the air baffling. Remote is an easy fix once the set works properly. Icebox usually has crud in the burner orifice, but may have a bad valve or ignitor. Get the flame burining and, since it works on electric, it will work on gas too.

Luck,

Johnny

Thanks for the input. Good to hear you like the Eagles. I would be getting them from JimK so they are hub centered. I guess then I will have a sweet set of 16.5 wheels for sale for someone who wants to update without forking over the new wheel cash. I hope I don't need a lawyer but most likely will Mad

Eagles are great, no recalls, Alcoas have had a few now.
Alcoas are shinier tho

16" has better selection and cheaper tires

The current Michelin XPSs are aged out and the only major brand replacement is the Transforce and it doesn't seem to be very highly regarded. I don't like being locked into 1 tire choice. I wish there were more choices as the Welds look awesome and ride great ( even with the all steel XPSs @ 80 psi)

I think I can buy quite a few sets before the price offset comes into place.

JD,

One thing you haven't told us, which I'm sure most of us would like to
hear, is how someone (I won't categorize them here) managed to sideswipe
you when you were clearly out of the I-20 traffic lane. Especially in the
way they apparently hit just the front side of the coach!

Is your wife recovering well from her injuries?

Ken,
As you know, we were parked with flashers on, several feet inside of the white lines. Sunny afternoon, clear and a million visibility. Due to the massive 18 wheeler accident/fire a few miles ahead, the traffic kept stacking up. As far as I can determine, the driver wasn't paying attention, saw the cars stopped in front of her and instinctively whipped her Ford Explorer to the right. Unfortunately, she whipped it right into my drivers side at approximately the split between the front cap and the rest of the body. She caught the edge of the bumper and it spun the Explorer into the ditch. I have to thank Bo's towing for getting us pulled to the campground and Bibbs Station Diesel service for getting her fixed. We had fun tracing the POs wiring to the fuel pump relay, at least I have my first thing to label now. As soon as I can get my GMC photo account working I will post some pictures. DW is sore and resting (not so comfortably) but at least the docs gave her a clean bill of health.

Probably too busy talking or texting to bother looking around her!

And I can understand that. I learned early that I now have a one-track
mind -- I CANNOT concentrate on a telephone conversation and drive. When
I've tried it, I've "woken up" wondering "...now where am I?". Don't do it
any more.

Phones are not the half of the problem, Ken. Anything that takes a drivers
eyes away from the road ahead is a big problem. That includes soft drinks,
snacks, tachometers, speedometers, any other gage, dogs, cats, radios, etc.
The drivers job is just that. DRIVE IT. (RANT OFF)
