The burned 78 lines are made up of 4 hoses, and two steel lines. The later ( by VIN, and after Jan1 of 78.) have just two rubber hoses total. Thus no steel lines. As a side note. The air ride system was also changed about this same time. Bob Dunahugh

Bob,

I copied this out of X-7525 which covers 73, 74 & 75 GMC's:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/455-2f-403-engine-oil-flow-path/p53466-olds-455-oil-cooler-lines.html

I copied this out of X-7725 which covers 77 & 78 GMC's:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/455-2f-403-engine-oil-flow-path/p49555-olds-403-oil-cooler-lines.html

I believe the lines were changed when the engine went from the 455 to the 403.

Parts Book 78Z Page 8-12 Section 8-012 Oil Lines shows a change effective in 1977.

8.012 LINES--OIL
694300 HOSEASSY.-feed engine oil cooler (413610.416542.417794.418694 engine)
694533 HOSEASSY.-return, engine oil cooler (413610.416542.417794.418694 engine)

719292 HOSEASSY.-engine oil filter to radiator (eff. w/interm 1977) (w/556626. 556627. 561032. 561033 engine)
719293 HOSEASSY.-radiator to engine oil filter (eff. w/interm 1977) (w/556626. 556627. 561032. 561033 engine)

You must have oil cop;er lines for a 455. The 403 had just single rubber lines. The 455 had the steel section in the center when it passes over the heat from the exhaust manifold.
