The conversion to a BB Chevy is not unique to Buskirk’s stretch coaches as only coach #4, #6 & #7 had the chevy BB. Their were several others done by other individuals.

The 8.1 conversion by Dave Lenzi is still being done with 7 engines in his shop to be converted to fit the GMC. The waiting list is long.

The parts necessary to install a regular BB Chevy which would be the oil pan conversion and fittings for the axles are not available at this time so it make that part a home made item. One of our suppliers was interested in providing a Kit of necessary parts to put a BB Chevy into the coach, but so far nothing has been announced.

The best new short block in the BB Chevy is the HT502 Chevy motor. Come with all the inside goodies. You would have to buy the necessary parts to dress it out and one of the new TBI self tuners would work great. The first link is the specification of the HT502 build.

The pricing is all over the place with most much lower than the GM source and most come with free shipping.

See the following:

You could put a serpentine Drive Kit on the front to handle the necessary

You need the transmission adapter plate and dowel pins.

and

The real deal here is that when your completed, you have a completely current modern engine assembly that has never been run or abused.

The motor mounts are another part and I need to talk to Carrol Shelly and see what was used on his coach.

The possibilities are endless, it is just another way to move ahead! We just need someone to put together a kit so you can install your own engine.

John,

While I think anyone doing this has more money than good sense,
I can offer a little helpful advice. Contact the man who had Dyno-Sources.
I did, and found out that when he retired he sold all his stuff to
another gentleman that he put me in contact with.
At that time, he had all the parts to install the BB Chevy, except that I
purchased the last set of headers he had. I had intended to modify
them to fit my Cadillac, as is common street rodder practice. That didn't
work out so I sold them to Hal Kading who put them on his coach.
I did find the man who built the headers. He uses a computer guided
mandrel bender, so he could make more headers. But I still think it's
a goofy idea!!! Just my personal opinion.

Do you have the contact numbers for the persons listed in your Email? I am not interested is doing BB chevy conversions, but just maybe suppling a kit so it can be done or someone else to provide the necessary parts for a kit.

John,

I haven't been ignoring you, my computer has been
in the shop all week, getting a new hard drive and
some other stuff. Just got it back a couple of hours ago.
I will have to do some searching for the info.
