I have a 1976 GMC with a 455 motor and want to know if anyone knows how to make the engine run cooler. I also need a new (replacement) turn signal handle with cruise control, any info on where to find one.
Thank you for your help.

felixm,

We might be able to help a bit more if we had a better description of the cooling problem
that you are having.

Has any work been done to try to troubleshoot the problem>

I am located in central Indiana just north of Indianapolis and could possibly help
and we have several other owners around the state that could also offer assistance.

let us know.

You're not going to find a new handle, but I'm sure we can go through our
used parts and find one. I'm assuming it is the original signal handle with
cruse button.

I checked his registration. He registered on July 12, but did not give any more information other than Indiana. Oh well maybe he will come back and give us more.

Let me be another who encourages you to give more symptoms. For example: retarded timing, bad thermostat, bad engine fan thermostatic controller, collapsing radiator hose, slipping fan belt under stress, clogged radiator, cooling baffles missing, Jim K lower scoop needed, lean mixture, bad water pump, wrong water pump that runs backwards from the efficient way, bad radiator cap, low coolant level, bad head gasket....etc, all could cause overheating.

Good luck with the overheating problem.

Felix,

Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum....

You have some answers already. But, as said, we need more information specific to your situation to be much more help.
That has been outlined above, but what would help both you and us would be a sigfile that contains: A real name so that when you meet other owners, they can recognize you, B a short bit about your coach, year and model will help (all '75s were 455 unless changed) but any other mods should be mentioned, C a geographic reference (those that read as e-mail don't get the header) so that anybody they may be in range to assist you will know where you are.

If you have not, you should go to the registry and get your coach in there. There is actually at lot of reason for this that you may find out later. Suffice it to say that it helps the organization.

This is a very supportive and helping community. If you have not put your name in the GMC Assist (aka Black's) list. You should. It does not matter what what you are capable of, but the fact is that you might be of assistance to another owner just by being there. GMC owners get around and are out of home ground a lot of the time. T he only other community that I know of that is like this is that of the watermen that are my world. For that reason, I have taken to welcoming new owners here much as a new owner or vessel is welcomed there. So,

May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.

Welcome Felix,

Matt
