So I tried to replace the floor lights to LEDs (put LEDs everywhere else) but I couldn't get them to turn on.
The bayonet fit, but on the floor incandescent there's an indent on the bottom- concave (still one contact). The replacement bulbs all are convex. The electrical connection is a plastic disc with a wire/nub end on it.
Are there other bayonet bulbs? I can't seem to imbed photos no matter the size.
thank you

You need to reverse the leads going to the light sockets, LED lights need to have the correct polarity and our GMC's have the positive wire connected to the ground side of the light socket.

tricky GMCers!
I'll check that out. it really didn't seem like I wasn't getting the right connection despite the concave/convex thing.
thank you, i'll report back

Some GMC's had floor sockets wired backwards instead of the center being positive. LED's won't work with opposite polarity. It can be tested with a voltmeter. Ours were backwards and after swapping wires LEDs are OK.

As far as polarity reveresed, the booster fans on the furnace to the rear vents suffered the same color code issue and many ran backwards creating dismal output.

I'll add to the others' feedback, polarity was reversed here as well, but only for the floor fixtures. I removed each fixture, cut the wires and flipped them around (re-soldered them back with the correct polarity) and all LED bulbs work fine now in them. Apparently most LED bulbs want the polarity correct (center is positive), where as incandescent bulbs don't matter. I haven't had any other problem with any other fixtures and we have LED bulbs in all of them.

Kelly,
In my '73, the floor lights were just round license plate lights pushed into a hole in the kick board. They just needed to be pried out of the hole. Gently.
There was plenty of wire to get to the connectors, and the light I bought (trailer red clearance lights) already had the bullet connectors. So, all I had to do was plug them in. If they lit, I put it in place and put in the two screws.

[quote title=emerystora wrote on Sat, 09 July 2016 09:05]One good thing about replacing the floor lights with led bulbs is the reduction of heat from the bulbs.
It has been reported in years past that throw rugs covering the bulbs have caught on fire. Apparently the rug covered the lights so the owner did not realize they were on.

I totally agree! no need for extra heat sources or battery pulls

For anyone else that needs to change the polarity there is no need to cut the wires.
!. unplug the light.
2. on the light plug note 2 small notches in the connector opposite the catch
3. push the wire into the connector and hole tight.
4. use a straightened paperclip of small screwdriver and insert it into the notch from the connector end to release
5. pull the wire out
6. put the connectors back in the plug on the opposite side
7. test and reinstall

Very good timing on this thread. I gave it a glance when it was posted but didn't think much of it. I got my led lights today but didn't work on the floor. Spidey senses went off and I came back here and sure enough, same problem. Switched the wires and she works great.
With all the lights in the coach on (except the rear reading lights) but including the 6 bathroom lights and overhead stove lights and floor lights I am drawing a mere 2.4 Amps. Love led. For kicks I turned them all off and just but the rear 2 reading lights...2.6 amps themselves lol.
