I have a rebuilt carb from Dick P. The existing cruise control chain has a black plastic "cap" which used to sit securely on a ball stud on my old carb. Now the new one from Dick has a different post with a slot in it for presumably a clip to hold the chain on. Can anyone tell me where I can pick up a proper cap which will allow me to put the chain back on the carb and not have it slide off. I just dont know the proper term for it to start looking. I should add that the existing stud in the Patterson carb is not the screw in type so I can just get a new ball stud and hook it back up. Im looking for a part that will tie the cruise chain to the linkage.
Many thanks

Forgot the put in the obvious that I did speak with Dick, He is not aware of any specific part for that. Suggested some folks fab up something to mate the chain to the post. Some of the posts are tig welded in and others are threaded for easy change out. He suggested a larger E clip.
Im thinking an electrical ring terminal, spread the crimp part of it out, slide the chain in, crimp it down good and then Eclip it to the post so it cant slide off. Just wanted to see if anyone else ran into this in the past, or knew of a part number for what I need.

Go to a junkyard and look at some of the older cars that have a bead chain attaching the bellows to the carb and I am sure you will find one on the carb shaft that will work.

The mere mention of the chain strikes fear in my heart. There I was, cruising through Los Angeles foolishly using cruise control. I started downhill and traffic was increasing so I hit the brake to disconnect the cruise control. But, not only did it not disconnect, but my speed was increasing uncontrollably --- Holy S^$%. Nothing would cause the engine to slow down and the brakes could hardly help. So, by judiciously turning off the engine (losing vacuum for the brakes) and restarting it (to get vacuum and brakes back), I was able to slow down take an offramp and pull to the side of the road. My wife was white as a sheet and I had to check my pants. What had happened was that the ball chain from the cruise control caught on the folded up lip of the bracket which is part of the carb assembly and was holding the carb pretty full on -- not good. Apparently a PO had removed a tube of some sort which the chain was passed through to prevent this from happening. So, check your chain to make sure it's enclosed in a tube as it passes over the bracket.

Wayne,
When I was collecting stepper motor cruise control modules from Chevy
trucks in the yard, I noted that they used a bolt-on ball stud on the
throttle body. Logical since the cruise control was an accessory.
You could utilize one of those by drilling appropriate sized hole. They
should be on anything with an accessory cruise control. I didn't collect
any because my Caddy carb had a correct stud. JWID

Appreciate the reply, I will take a look at the mens mall here, but pickings are slim on carbs it seems.
As for the tube around the chain, Yup its still in place and in good shape.
As I just got the carb back, and its shiny, and new, and beautiful, and installed, Im not really interested in taking it off, cutting pieces and then drilling out the spot for a stud. Had this been my old carb, maybe.
Worst case is I cant find something acceptable and I dont have cruise. Sometimes thats a good thing as we only do a few hundred miles a year and 60mph with my foot on the gas for a while is not a deal breaker.

As a follow up and from solid help off line, I have at least the proper term to offer the community and possibly someone down the road. Im pretty sure the cruise chain is a size 10.
The term is a ball chain Type A or D Coupling. McMaster Carr has something similar but a bit different.

If I go this route I may have 99 of them to offer to the community:) Provided my local hardware store doesnt have one.
The Type D looks to be better and should slip over the slotted stud on the carb, and I can pin or Eclip it down.
Learned more about ball chains today than I really wanted to.......

Wayne,
Good find, another good place to check would be a Locksmith. I also have an old old style ACE hardware that carries everything unique.

Sure thing, The ACE around the corner here is just that. An actual hardware store, Not much fluff, but tight packed aisles with all the odd stuff and people who know what they are talking about.
