Good Afternoon Everyone
Question: What is the lastest on fan clutches?? I know there are Severe Duty, Heavy Duty and Standard Duty clutches. I've been using the 2747 which is equivalent to a Heavy Duty but I'm not happy with it, it doesn't seem to be doing the job and I go through at least one per year. I've tried several different brands of the Severe Duty like the 15-4644 but they continually cycle from being dead quiet to the famous 747 roar which is a no go.
What are you people using these days that actually works????
Thanks

Do you have baffles that direct the air through the radiator instead of
around it? I think the reason that GMCs have so many fan clutch failures is
because they engage at highway speeds and they are not designed for that
kind of duty. They are only supposed to engage in traffic, idling, etc.
where there is not enough air flow from the grill. I wrote up my
experiences at

Yes, I have the side baffles that direct the air to the radiator.

Wondering if all these changes tp oem are realy nessesary? Mine is all oem, except for a allu radiotor and a patrtson engine. Never runs hot, only hear the fan at start up and a longe steep hill. Never in traffic, actually temps go down in slow heavy traffic.
Maybe one should focus more on adjustment of ignition and carb then changes to oem ?

Ray - My my conditions and experiences are the same as Appie's. I don't remember which fan clutch I have. It is the one you recommended to me a few years back. Like Appie I have an AL radiator w/o baffles.
