Hello everyone. Was a not so much fun day today, I took the Grandkids to Folly Beach, SC today, as I was pulling into the camp ground I felt the transmission slip out of drive. I thought that maybe the fluid was low, so parked, sent the girls of to the beach and checked the fluid, but it was fine. When it was time to go home, it slowly got worse so that even low was slipping at a max speed of 13 miles an hour. It took 2 hours to drive 22 miles. 
This is what I know:
She would slip(Pulse) from "S" to "L" if you tried to accelerate. The slower you accelerated the more it would pulse was from "L" to "S"(about once every one seconds). If you give it gas (3,000 RPM's), it would pulse less often but never shifted to "D"
Letting it cool had no effect
Uphill seemed to make it worse, but any wheel torque seemed to make it worse.
She would never go into Drive only "S" or "L"
I check the Vacuum line and it looks like it was replaced in 2006 during the overhaul. There may be a split in the line, but I would have to remove it tomorrow to check. The Transmission was replaced in 2006 by Dunn's Trans Service in Memphis, TN, with a new Heavy duty TC and electric Stepdown switch.
The Transmission has about 10,000 miles on it
Spedo Works fine, so assuming the gear is ok
Hoping this can be fixed without replacement, I had a trip to Hilton head planed on July 14th with the Grandkids, I really don't want to cancel it.
Anyone know of a good mechanic in Charleston SC?

Possibly the filter connection is leaking and letting it draw air and fluid and thus forcing the air into the system.

Drop the Transmission pan. The filter is only hand pressed into the valve body with an O ring seal. Mine fell out and the trans was doing what yours is. The filter should fit tight into the valve body firm to where you cannot even twist it.

On that note the Oring on the filter could have split so pull filter out inspect and reinstall. If you have a know good filter I would dump what fluid you can out the intake and reuse due to many new filters being poor fit. Question-- you are checking with engine running in Park right? Otherwise it will look full but not be full.

GOOD NEWS.
took all day, but finally got under her to pull the pan.
when I touched the filter it fell into my hand. So I am thinking it was sucking air.
I also noticed that it had two O rings, and that the outside edge of the rings might be a little flat(maybe).
Fluid looked good, bottom of the pan looked good. the pan bolts where almost hand tight. When I put it back on, what should the torque be? and the rubber hose that connects above the pan was from 1975 so it was brittle and had to be leaking vacuum

In our shop, when we run into issue where we think a filter might have
started to drop, we over fill it and see.
Be careful on a new filters as the tube size can be small.
We have returned of 30 of the wrong tube sizes.
They ALL come from Communist China.
Non is manufactured in USA.

Torque on the tranny pan bolts is 12 ft/lbs according to the maintenance manual. Just did my pan gasket this afternoon.

Any vehicle i have pulled the tranny pan off, i always check and retorque the pan bolts a few times later. Once after a couple of heat/cool cycles. And if i do plan any longer travel. After anoil change or two, if they are still holding you should be good. Had the experience and have seen it happen to others: those bolts do come loose.

Thanks for everyone's help
I did notice that when I put the new filter it fitted snug enough to stay, almost like it popped in place, but the far end of the filter still could be moved up and down about ¼ of an inch.
Hopefully that is normal..
I did a 20 mile test drive, and all seems well, it even feels better, maybe hopeful thinking.
