Hi, just did a search on leaks and there's thousands of hits.... Where to start? What I was hoping to find is kind of a step by step on how to go about dealing with roof leaks, including taking off old sealants/caulks.
Anyone remember something along those lines?
Thanks

If you take a look at Bounds' blog (Daily Pose) you can see how he does it.

Thanks for the tips! I have someone lined up to work on the roof leaks since I don't trust myself up there and it's too damn hot anyway. It sounds like he understands what's needed although he thought he would be coming to work on a rubber roof. He usually uses Dicor poly, but he said it only comes in white. Not sure what I will do about that, since getting the whole thing repainted is not an option now. I have some of the 3M 5200 and butyl tape to try, too.
I do have a question about the mostly hated silicone. In the PPT presentation at https://docs.google.com/viewerng/viewer?url=http://gmcws.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/Caulking-and-Sealants-PPT.pdf silicone is recommended and it says it does not break down in UV light. So can anyone clarify?
And one more on this issue, and I promise I won't ask again - are the rails steel? Is that why the photos look like there's major degradation under those? And if I can't get the rails off (short of going to the Co-op), is it OK just to seal top and bottom?
thank you!!
