Hi George and Greg,

Before you change out the alternator again, try something. Try cleaning the connector between the alternator and the wire harness. On my 78 that connector is on the drivers side below the alternator. I have found that if that connection has any resistance then the alternator may not see the sense voltage coming from the battery correctly causing it to increase voltage. Just the other day I noticed the voltage jumping up well past 14vdc on occasion with fully charged batteries. I put a little Corrosion Block into that connector and the condition normalized.

We are now back in Whitehorse, YT, on our way back south from our Alaskan adventure. What a wonderful trip. Highly recommended for all GMCers!

Both drive equally as well.

Greg,

I feel your pain. You may get a good one one of these days. I could hardly make a trip anywhere and not have to change the alternator somewhere along
the line. I have a 100 amp, I think from O'Reily's that has been OK for almost 10K miles. (Probably the same one AutoZone sells.) I have tried a local
starter-alternator shop, Delco rebuilt, AutoZone, NAPA and O'Reily. It almost makes a fellow want to buy a 5 pack of the silly thngs.

I now have a double pulley and that means I have to have it removed and put on the new one. Added complexity unless I want to carry an impact wrench.
