Need help.

The Onan has been taken out of the MH compartment for cleanup of oil leaks,
R & R rear armature bearing, general maint, upgrades, and paint.
Would like to bench start the unit to check on oil leaks, voltage output,
carb adjustment and ? before putting it in.
How secure does it need to be to do this, and is a light bulb enough of a load on the gen
to check output?
Your comments and ideas, welcomed.
