Who wants to give an opinion? :D

Week 8 to 26 of 2008, 16" firestone transforce.
Always covered, no sidewall cracks, never low on air, never hit any objects, potholes or small Hondas.
Always unloaded while stored with blocks holding the weight
Kept outside, But in Minnesota, so 9 months of the year is cool or COLD
Inspected they look brand new.

I only plan on 2 short, 200 or so mile trips this year.
Would you replace all 6 of the dang things?
Next year I plan on some real trips, so I'd be much happier waiting.

Thanks

Myself? I'd wait.

Michelin themselves (in the business of selling tires!) state 10 years is an acceptable age to replace them:

http://www.michelintruck.com/assets/pdf/bulletins/TB_Service_Life_RV_Tires.pdf

I quite often run tires past 10 years. But in the case of my GMC, I'll probably replace mine somewhere in the 8-10 year window - to avoid the potential of a blowout causing body damage.

YMMV!

I also would wait.
I don't think I'd want to go a couple thousand miles on them, but I'd definitely run 200 miles.

"Now the proper advice is ditch those things and get all new ones every 5 years to be super safe! Safety first!"
Real world, run em' and hope for the best.

The Minnesota climate probably mitigates any deterioration of the rubber, so, yeah they're probably okay.

Thanks

Kieth,

I will give you an opinion and that of an expert (Not Me).
Go back to the 16th the grab the links I put in my note about tires.

Read it yourself, but from my discussions with Roger Marbles the 7 year bit is for hot climates and not well cared for. (As I understood it.)

It's more then 200 miles to Mansfield.... You aren't going to be there??? Well - 5h1t

I'd buy 2 today. And 4 next year. Spread out the pain!
otherwise i would not worry about anything other then like me, sucks to not have time or funds to drive further in a year.

fwiw,

I would install tire pressure monitoring system
on them as additional piece of mind and run them for
another year or so.

Let yourself off the hook pal...If the tires were made in the US don't be concerned. Out of country (China, the far east in general) produce junk tires regardless of the brand. You are likley to have success as you are, but you should replase two tires this year and two more next year and the last two the year after that. Good idea to keep the oldest tires younger than 5 years old.
I live in B.C. and just replaced two tires after 8 years...it's the climate!! Cool, with humidty and shelter from UV rays.

On the other hand, my Goodyears began shedding tread sections after 5 1/2
years.

The thought of tearing up the rear quarter panel would be my worry with older tires. Your chances will be more questionable if it is really hot weather. My neighbor has an FMC with 15 year old tires on it and they are hardly used he pulled out this morning on a trip over the mountain to California probably 600 miles round trip he will be running thru some 100 degree temperatures. He is more trusting then me the side walls show cracks and he has a Detroit diesel in that thing more then 8 liter engine . I imagine it's pretty heavy we will see if the tires hold up ?

I'm going to wait, I'll buy new tires in the spring or before my next real trip :)
I hope I don't regret it, but I think it's a low risk, they're not goodyears afterall :)

Matt,
Yes I read that, you are the reason I'm considering running the tires :)
No, I'm not holding anyone but my self liable in the least!

And no, not going to make it to the rally, I started a new job and have no vacation till September.
I'd LOVE to go, but I'm still expected to work.

I have always replaced my tires approximately every six years.
I usually replace two every two years.
In the fall of 2014 when preparing to go to Wisconsin for the GMCMI convention I bought two new tires which left 4 older tires. My oldest tire was a Michelin 7 year old tire. The rest of the tires were BF Goodrich. The Michelin was purchased on a trip when I got a nail through the sidewall and I couldn't find a BF Goodrich. I had read on this site that Mchelins could be used for ten years. So, I decided to use it for one more trip and replace it the following spring.

However on the way back home I had a blowout of the 7 year old Michelin. It took out my T-skirt and caused Fiberglas damage in the rear wheel well. An expensive lesson!

I had checked tire pressures before leaving Wisconsin for home so I don't think it was caused by low presume.

I am back to my six year limit. It is cheaper to replace tires than to have body shop expense.

I'm by no means an expert, I just replaced all six of mine (14 year old BF Goodrich's) I knew I was pushing my luck driving to Branson so I sold a car to pay for new ones...

I am rather frugal, but personal and customers experience has taught me
that when it comes to tires being older than 5 years, it can get costly
when the tread peals off and damage the fender wells and access doors.
It is not a safety issue, as the tire stays inflated, just damages the
coach .

I just went 400 each way to Sandusky and back on 10 year old LTX. Coach has had indoor storage and tires look like new. In fact when JimK looked my coach over to appraise in Branson he thought they were new tires probably because the RWOL and Zaino tire dressing. My tire guy told me to keep running them. Michelin site says to retire them. I'm going to start shopping. Maybe LTX II, or Commercial TA or Cooper. I will only run USA or Canada built

Decent deal on the Coopers...the discount and the rebate pay for the shipping and give $10 toward taxes.

Might find them shipped free on ebay.

They also carry Kelly Springfield tires which are also made in the USA.
The Kellys are free shipping right now from that site, and they were shipped free when I got mine a couple of years ago.

AT3s look good but slightly agressive. Good in the camp but wondering how they are on the highway.
