Putting in my new tranny and final drive the other day,father's day, and ran into a couple of issues never seen mentioned on the forum. First thing found, after a lot of cussing and discussing, when I couldn't get the tranny and final drive in as one piece and getting it jammed in place, my son noticed the bung that the PO had welded on the side of the oil pan in that little spot open between the final drive and oil pan was impeding our rear movement of the assembly so we broke the final drive loose then after we got the tranny unwedged it went up in place. We also found out, even with the steering turned all the way to one side, you have to pull FD cover and put it at a real steep angle to get over the steering crossbar then level out and to put in tranny, so I configure a holding fixture, screwed it to my regular tranny jack and put angles under the front of it with pieces of wood, slid it up, then forward, up a little more, forward a little more, leveled out then mated it to tranny, Yahtze! And the final discovery was the flex plate bolts would not go in the new torque converter, wouldn't you think that these would be SAE threads, the new one was, I think, after awhile I checked the bolts and they were 10mmX1.5 metric, I needed 3/8" 16 like the new torque converter had and what you would logically think would be in it. the pitch on the 2 are almost exactly the same but the 10mm is .015" wider. 3/8" 16 flex plate bolts are Moroso 38765. If people around LA hear laughter it's probably Jim K. he's been working with me on this project long distance for over 6 weeks and it has been a comedy of errors, I'm glad we both have a sense of humor to get us through it. Just a few things that might help someone later. I'm putting those bolts in tonight, hope I'm right about that, if not the bolt holes are way off in the torque converter.

Just a bit of a hint on torque converter/flex plate issues. SOME TORQUE
CONVERTER BOLTS are threaded their entire length. SOME ARE NOT, WHERE THEY
GO THROUGH THE FLEX PLATE, and the holes in the flex plate are slots, not
round holes. DOUBLE CHECK THE LENGTH OF THE BOLTS!! IF THEY BOTTOM OUT IN
THE TORQUE CONVERTER LUGS BEFORE THEY CLAMP AGAINST THE FLEX PLATE, bad
stuff will happen!! Don't ask me how I came to learn this, it still pisses
me off. Later torque converters are metric as you found out. Likely most of
the ones out there are now. Also, if you have a 6 lug converter, you have
the wrong one. The one for the MH only has 3 lugs and three spots on the
back of the flex plate for the lugs to mate. If you mis-match this, it will
bend the hell out of your flex plate, and it will wobble like a duck.
Learned this one the hard way too. (experience is a tough school, but
lessons learned here are never forgotten)

Only 3 lugs and from Manny, sure hope it's right. Looks like the thread in the
lugs line up to the outside of the flex plate holes.

If they came from Manny, odds are very good that the bolts are the correct
ones for the Torque converter he supplied. There are several different flex
plates in the after market today, and they are not all the same thickness.
That is why I cautioned you about the length of the bolts. If it all came
from Manny then that is a good thing. If any person knows what to look for,
he will.

My old flex plate and the new bolts are from Moroso and they are full thread.

I was able to easily run a 3/8" tap in the TC lug to make sure I hadn't messed up the threads.

Make sure the bolt is not too long and loctite them.
