Thanks to all for the pre-purchase advice. Ended up getting one locally (Phoenix, we're in Tucson). It's a 76 Eleganza II. It checked all of the boxes mechanically. I'm going to start going through it this week and plan on a trip to Oregon next month.

I'm used to big rig diesels so I was interested in how the driving experience would differ. The GMC handled pretty well and seems to have plenty of power. The brakes (electric discs) did fine too. It was much quieter than I expected (years ago we had a Winnebago Minnie and that V-10 just roared).

Here's a photo. I'm sure many of you will recognize this rig. Gotta get some tire covers. Oops. Couldn't load the file as it indiates a 1 kilobyte maximum? I better do some research!
