In my usual head-first way, I am replacing the steering column on my 77Kingsley 26 but am having trouble getting the correct column. I have access to two columns, both Cadillac, but they are too short and have the double D lower end that is not easily changeable to the splined female fitting on the lower steering coupling/power box.
Since there are junkyards readily available in my area along with ebay and craigslist, I need to find the column (auto/year/model) that will fit. One of the Cadillac columns that I can get seems to be long enuf with tilt and telescope but the shift level doesn't clear the dash. If I know more closely what to get, will resume search. Have plenty of other things to do in the meantime.

Read Chuck Boyd's instructions on the steering column changeover before you tear stuff up. You must use the lower end from the GMC column, it is one of the vehicle unique parts.
