We are planning out our trip to Branson for the International rally and are going to break up the trip into two legs from the Houston area.
Looks like a good overnight or two would be around the Hot Springs area in Arkansas. It would be my first time there, so I have no idea where the nice campgrounds or interesting areas would be.
Any suggestions on where to stay, or must see attractions in that area? Or within a 75 mile circle of Hot Springs?
Thanks for the help, Scott

Look at the state parks with RV sites.
I am a little familiar with DeGray south of Hot Sorings.
The Russellville Ar side, Dardenelle Lake Park 70 miles north of Hot Springs is very nice. Great sites with lake views, a very nice visitor center.

We used to give potential M35 (Deuce and a half) drivers their road test up AR 7. Not what I'd run a GMC with toad up unless you really like crooked and narrow with ups and downs. Pretty country though. It's been many years, but if the pizza joint Rod and Patty's Cellar is still there, it's the best pizza you'll get this side of Chicago or New York. Can't help you on campgrounds, I always stayed on the base or in contract housing when I went to The Springs.

Hey Scott,
The Ouachita National Forest northeast of there is a great place to stay. Tons of swim-able rivers and streams. Some isolated, some popular with locals who specialize in daredevil rope swing engineering. It reminds me of a 70s Mountain Dew commercial in some places.
I think me and Steph stayed in the Shady lake campground, which is probably further west than you want to be. There look to be some promising places closer to Hot Springs...

Only downside I think I should mention. We were there fairly early one year (May I think) and there was an un-holy number of ticks. Like Sci-Fi movie level, yuuugh. I don't know if that is a regular occurrence in that area or not.

Hey Tim!
I didn't even think about the ticks. But now since researching campgrounds I have come across campgrounds that are taking steps to reduce the amount of tick and chiggor attacks (less trees, less grass, etc). More so with the private parks, not so much with the state parks.
So far there is a promising RV park called Cloud Nine, about 12 miles east of Hot Springs. Sits on a hill with great views. And great reviews.
Still might have to kidnap Billy for a booze cruise to Eureka Springs during the rally, short drive from Branson!

Given that that was ~~35 years ago, Rod may well be second generation. Three of us went in there one night after a day of jackhammering up and hauling off concrete pads on the base, and ordered the Giant version of the Chicago style house special - only one they wouldn't change ingredients on. Waitress takes a look and says 'you don't want Giant, you want Large.' We said we're starving, she says if you three eat all the large, we'll give you another one. We had two slices left. The thing was the same size as anybody's Large, but about 4 inches thick with crust over. Weighed in around 7 - 8 pounds. Get one.

Maybe on the way home........Crystal Bridges is a world class American art
museum located in Bentonville, Arkansas, directly south of Joplin, MO on
I-49. Visit Rosie the Reviter, and explore a Frank Lloyd Wright house.
An absolute MUST SEE, and it is FREE. COE campgrounds are nearby. Wear
comfortable shoes, the grounds and architecture are spectacular.
You may also be interested in visiting Colaws RV Salvage on the north side
of I-44 east of Joplin.
