My new used coach has a later model steering column with the newer cruise control setup - engage button on the stalk end and an off-on-accel/resume slide switch. The cruise system works in every mode, but hunts more than it should i.e. there's way too much hysteresis in the system. Sags more than (I think) it should, then overcompensates, repeats. I suspect this, along wth the 3.7 gearset, leads to the not great mileage I'm getting. I'll note, the coach has a Mac dash, I haven't determined whether there's a resolver for the speedo or it's mechanical. It has a bit of jitter at some speeds, but the jitter at the gauge at least doesn't seem to correspond to the cruise action.
Is there a way to tighten the set window deviation on these systems? I suppose I can always go back to the original setup like my other coach, which works, but that seems like a PIA incurred to regress.

Johhny it would be helpful if you told us the make and model of the cruise control. Like you, I have a MAC dash, newer model steering column, engage on the stalk end etc. with the Rostra cruise. Sometimes it hunts to maintain a set speed and I do have speedo jitter at some speeds. In practice, I tend to disengage cruise when going up hills to avoid the cruise pushing the accelerator too far (I think it makes gas mileage worse and creates excessive engine heat). I would rather slow down a bit on a hill by controlling throttle settings manually. On level roads I let it hold set speed. The Rostra unit has dip switch settings for sensitivity if that is what you have.

Its a GMC motorhome specific Rostra cruise control kit. That's probably adjustable with the dip switches on the box. I recall postings (and maybe an owner's manual) on the subject. A lot of data and info here.

Have fun!

I can't resist helping. Try this

SWITCH SETTINGS
The Actuator Assembly must be programmed for the
vehicle on which it is installed. The TEN (10) programming
switches must be set according to the chart below in order
for the Cruise Control to operate properly.
NOTE 1: Both the Gray (VSS) and the Blue (TACH) wires
must be connected. (If the Gray wire is not used, an
auxiliary road speed source must be used.) See Form #2482 Vehicle Technical Information Guide (supplied in kit) for
VSS and TACH wire information.
NOTE 2: If using an "OPEN CIRCUIT" control switch
with the Cruise Control, SWITCH NUMBER 7 will have
to be OFF. If unsure whether control switch is "OPEN
CIRCUIT" or "CLOSED CIRCUIT", look at label of box
in which the control switch was packaged.
NOTE 3: IF ANY OF THE 10 SWITCHES NEED TO BE
CHANGED AFTER INSTALLATION OF THE CRUISE
CONTROL, CONTROL SWITCH AND THE VEHICLE IGNITION SWITCH MUST BE IN THE OFF POSITION. THIS IS TO ALLOW THE CRUISE CONTROL TO RESET.
PROGRAMMING
SWITCHES ARE FOUND
UNDER GROMMET ON TOP OF
ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY

SWITCH 2 ON ON OFF
Note: If your Cruise Control surges or is too sensitive - set Gain to Low.
Note: If your Cruise Control seems slow in controlling or responding to set speed - set Gain to High.
