Hi Peer and Fred,
Both our two coaches get driven more than 10000 miles each year so sitting is not likely the culprit. I think Fred is on the correct track as I, too, have since founds lots of references to tread separation on these BFG Commercial TAs in that 2011 time frame. BFG even issued a recall on the next size up (235/75 16 LRE) for this very problem. I can't imagine a 10 mm difference in tread width altered anything to do with the manuf process so maybe our 225/75 16 just wasn't popular enough to hit the recall threshold.
Now I am wondering that if a 5 year rotation is required, should we be using a less expensive wallyword tire to replace the rest of these BFGs now or just swap them out for more current date code BFGs on a new 5 year basis. I will post more as I learn more but would enjoy hearing how others that drive as much as we do are now handling the GMC tire issue. Thanks.

Gerald,
> A loud bang followed by lots of flailing against the side of the coach shortly after exiting off the freeway let us know in no uncertain way that a tire had blown
sorry to hear that bad news. But good that noone was hurt.
I wonder: How often did you drive that coach? I had heard that one of
the culprits with tires is not moving them enough.

I don't drive s far, but I do drive as often. Seldom will the coach sit more than three weeks. I have Coopers on it, mostly because that's what the shop I deal with sells. I figure 7 years and off.

I mounted B.F.G. tires in Sept. 08. I replaced all 7 just before we did the
Route 66 rolling rally in June 2014. I still have them on 16" steel wheels
in my shop. No lumps or bulges apparent. Those tires still have more than
50% tread life showing. They had more age on them than I felt comfortable
with for a long trip. But here is the kicker. During that time span, B.F.G.
was bought out by Michelin, and manufacturing was moved to Canada. Reason
for the move was given as E.P.A. regulations on tire manufacturers in the
United States required that B.F.G. reduce their cure time in the molds to
reduce airborne hydrocarbon solvents. They did have some recall problems
with load range E tires following those restrictions. Aparently air quality
restrictions in the province where their plant is now located are different
than the U.S.A. and longer cure times are possible. That is what I was told
when I bought my second set and noticed that they are now mfg. in Canada.
Have over 15000 miles on the new ones, so far no issues.

BFG needs to rephrase that to "We didn't want to bear the cost of recovering the solvents in our tires."
The Ampex tape plant in Opelika AL recovered all of its several solvents, missing only a few (under ten) gallons a year. Some of the stuff they used was >very< expensive, very much worth recovering.
A cousin was one of their HVAC engineers for that plant back when rusty plastic was the 'go to' method of preserving audio and video.
