It was posted a few weeks ago about these replacement traps for under sinks. The concept sounded interesting. As I needed more room under the sinks. Got 2 yesterday. And at this point in the project. Where do I stop? www.hepworth.co.uk Bob Dunahugh78 Royale

I have a concrete pad extending 60' or so in front of the garage. The rest of the driveway -about 180'- was gravel (now recycled asphalt chips). People used to ask why I didn't I finish the drive to the road. A: That's where the money ran out.

I am using them as well in mine.
Finished plumbing today and it's a bit annoying how it stays closed until enough pressure builds to open it, causes a bit of backup before it drains. But I suppose a p real does that to some degree as well.

On a recent trip to Sophia Antipolis, France for an industry testing event,
I noticed these very compact sink traps.

Has anyone used these on the GMC? They seem quite compact and have the
benefits of a regular P-trap. I have not tried to find a source for them in
the US.

Justin. Thanks for the comment about the backup. I was going to mount it to the bottom of the sink. Mounting in the vertical drain pipe that's about 3 feet from the sink. That would solve that issue. Bob Dunahugh78 Royale

The E-mail below is now void from what I found it a test. I mounted it horizontally to the bottom of the sink. Ran water into the sink. The water ran out just like there was nothing there. Maybe I have a different brand. Bob Dunahugh

Bob,
I mounted mine horizontally under the shower floor. It takes about 2" of water to get it open. I feel as though it's going to loosen up with time.

FWIW,
Here is what I did to gain more room under the bathroom and kitchen sinks where the trap take up so much space. JWID

For a simple solution you could try something like this:

Justin. So the water comes up the floor drain pipe. But doesn't stand on the floor? With mine. The water doesn't even stand in the vertical pipe out of the sink. That distance from the bottom of the sink. To the trap is about 2 inches. I'll try my other HepO traps.

.Justin. Just a thought. There is a top, and bottom when mounted horizontally. I wouldn't think that would affect flow. Just how much water stade in the trap.

Bob,
On mine it's as if the membrane sticks to itself a bit too strongly. I think with time it will be just fine, maybe just some adhesive leftover from manufacturing or something. Either way it's under the floor now and functional, it just retains a bit more water than i'd like it to, but it doesn't really matter or make any negative difference.
I love them, and will likely be stocking them in the store here shortly.

I have not installed the Hepvo valves -- but in addition to space saving it would seem the big advantages -- the black tank would not back up into the shower and there would no longer be a need for the cut away into the floor that allowed room for the p trap.

Dennis, this is why I went this route. It allowed me to have a lower bathroom.floor with no cutout in the floor itself. Also keeps the tank from being able to back up. I have just one installed under the bathroom floor for both sink and shower. We shall see how it functions.
