I've been thinking about getting a vehicle with a CVT (Continuously
Variable Transmission) and all wheel drive.
Can this be towed 4 wheels down? There are only 3 settings 2 wheel drive,
all wheel drive, and a low range.

Is more info required ?

I'm thinking the answer is no !

Thanks

Most who buy a vehicle with CVT regret it. And so does the warranty writer for them.

There is a TOAD towing guide in a recent Motorhome magazine. I gave mine away
Perhaps you can find the info you need on the "Motorhome"
magazine web site.

My guess is that "Most who buy a vehicle with CVT regret it" does not include the Prius. Lots of miles on ours...no issues. Consumer Reports rates the drive train as Highly Reliable for 2008-2015 Prius. The only down side is I wish I could tow mine 4 down, but can't because of the CVT.

Some 2015 and newer Hondas have the CVT, and theirs, at least, is not
towable 4-down.

Thanks all.

As I suspected the CVT cannot be towed four flat. I was looking at a 2005
Nissan X-Trail AWD and fully loaded, but with a CVT. I've never heard
anything good about the CVT but thought the leather and bling would make it
OK ..

I'll stick with my Rav4 AWD, std tranny as a towed.

Subaru Forester with manual transmission can be towed 4 wheels down. Automatic must be on a trailer. Great vehicle.

The car manufacturers in their infinite wisdom have upgraded to ta CVT. Over the last few years a number of great cars have fallen off the FMCA Towing Guides. If you're a FMCA member which GMC club members are you have access. Over the years we have flat towed a number of cars. The first was an early 80’s 4WD2DR Tracker followed by a 4WD4DR Tracker and in 2009 we bought a Honda FIT with the auto trans and towed that until 2012, great car weighed under 2500#and was neat to drive. The present towed car is a 2011 Honda CRV with auto transmission. Both the FIT and the CRV are no longer flat towable with an auto transmission as they both went to a CVT in 2014 for the FIT and 2015 for the CRV. The FIT is still flat towable in the Manual transmission configuration. You should also check the Remco Site for what cars can be towed or not.

Honda HRV with automatic is supposed to be towable, 4 down. Needs checking with owner's manual. CRT's are supposed to be gas friendly. But, drive strange.

Yes, it is as long as it is a manual transmission unit. The only Honda that are now towable for 2016 are Manual Transmission units which include the Civic LX and Sedan LX and the FIT & HR-V. In 2015 only the FIT LX & EX in manual version were available. In 2014 the CR-V in all models with Auto trans were towable. In 2013 both the CR-V and FIT Auto trans were towable.
