The 6010 manual says it has a 1amp dc charging circuit that charges the starting battery. It says that if you have another charging system charging the battery that you need to install an isolator. Is an expensive isolator really required to protect the generator. If so what size, make, where installed, have been used and is there some other special wiring required.

Why not just run it on the house battery(s) and disconnect the internal charger? Substantially less expensive.

It is not at all unusual to have a conflict when you have two separate charging systems connected to the same battery. When I installed a Xantrex "smart" charger the instructions said it would not charge the battery if there was another source. So it made sense to disconnect the small Onan charger so as to allow the 40 amp Xantrex charger to quickly charge up the battery when the Onan was running.

I would think that you could just disconnect the small Honda charger. It serves no purpose if you are powering a charger (converter) with the 120 volt AC output of the Honda.

Yep terminate the charge wire unless you are going to use a stand alone generator battery. That's what I did

cut or disconnect the white wire on the left side of the control panel. This is the wire the "Honda Guru" cuts on his installations. My ev6010 starts just fine on the rear house battery.
