hi, we're doing an engine rebuild and found that all the heads
we have can't be used as-is, so we're basically stuck.

Can anybody recommend a shop that can grind the seats correctly
and do the valves on 455 heads? Seems like good machine shops are
getting hard to find around here. This is in the San Jose, CA area.

thanks,
Karen

Karen,
Talk to Felix or Steve at APM Custom Engines, Morgan Hill, (408) 778-3688
They just worked on a 455 last week.

Regards,
Bill

thanks Bill, these guys are great! Felix is the owner, been doing this stuff
for 30+ years. Steve is his long-time assistant, good at his job and knows 455's.
We lucked out and they were able to squeeze us in quickly and did a very nice
set of shallow hardened seats in the C heads we'll be using. I plan to take our J heads
to them later and have them rebuild those as well for spares. Nice guys, good work,
competitive prices. We're very happy with them.

thanks,
Karen

PS: they seem to end up with a lot of 403 cores that nobody seems to want
because they're not 455's (for marine use). Don't know if any are good enough to use,
but if anyone is looking for 403 stuff, you might check with these guys.
