I am getting ready to recarpet my 78 Royale. Is there any advantages in staying with the sloped floor? Do most people remove the slope and go flat? What is involved in removing the slope? Thanks for the help, Scott.

I removed the sloped floor back between the two rear settees in my '76 Palm
Beach because I built a permanent bed. I don't think I know of a sloped
floor in your Royale, Scott. Where is it?

Scott,
On our '78 Royale, Center Kitchen, there was a slope of the floor that started by the aft end of the bunk, and went up towards the front of the coach. So the walkway to the front between the couch/bunk was at the same level as the dinette floor (raised).

I took it out, but left the dinette floor raised as it was. It makes walking from the back to the front easier.

On the Royale coaches fitted with hanging bunk beds, they raised the floor
to facilitate the chilluns' climb into the bunks. Many of the raised floors
have subsequently be removed by people without children or grandkids. My
best guess anyway.

My slope starts from level elevation to a incline at the forward side of the entry door, and goes to the cockpit steps. Originally it must of had bunks on the drivers side, and a dinette on the pax side.
I am guessing that there is level plywood underneath the incline? So if I took out the plywood that makes up the slope there should be a solid base underneath to put the new carpet on? P.S. Jim H, I am glad to hear that you agitated the hospital staff enough that they had no choice but to give you a early release! And again, thanks for the help. Scott

Staff at the hospital are some of my favorite people. Very professional
and compassionate. Big surprise to me. But, St. Vincent's is a CHRISTIAN
FACILITY, I should have known. No bad words or sick jokes from me. Yeah, I
know, now you are going to say, "What have you done with the real Jim Hupy
?" I am much alive and well, thanks to some very skilled and caring people.

The floor was raised in an attempt to have the floor at a better height for comfort. Because of having seating above the bigger LP tank under the dinette. And the generator. It's constructed of 2 by 4's on edge. Then covered with plywood. Simple to remove except for a lot of screws. The floor under that area will be fine. Always remember. The Coachman completed GMC's have nothing in common with the GM completed coaches. Other than the outside body. I've had 3, 78 Royales. With 3 different floor plans. If you have ANY questions. Feel free to call anytime. 319-521-4891Bob Dunahugh78 Royale Mouse HouseIowa

Bob,

Do you have to remove the tanks or any of the cabinets to remove the raised floor? I'm doing a wood floor and a flat one would make it much easiers.

thanks

Todd

Its just some boards screwed onto the flat floor beneath it. Easy to take out.

Todd. Emery covered it. I removed everything including the LP tank, and cover. You don't need to mess with the tank.
