"Tweety Bird" had developed a tendency to continue bobbing its head after
bumps, so I got JimK to send me a new set of 6 KYB's. Yesterday, after
Alan evacuated the service rack on Tuesday, was installation day.

Removing the Bilsteins, installed, IIRC, in '93 was much more difficult
than installing the KYB's. The bolts were, of course, well settled into
their locations and not in much mood to move; it took lots of persuasion on
most of them. Along with some learning of what had to be held and how --
the 3" exhaust pipe and the self-added macerator hose stowage tube don't
help wrench clearance for the lower middle and rear bolts.

But, all went well until the last bolt of the job: I'd discovered on the
RF that it's about as easy, at least on my rack, to R&R the shocks with the
tire in place. But that does mean that the upper shock bolt must be driven
out in the blind. The upper LF bolt took advantage of my blindness to take
a vacation -- I must have spend 45 minutes searching for that thing before
going to buy a new one (my stock of 9/16" bolts is too slim).

I haven't done the test drive yet, but don't really expect an awful lot of
change since only one of the 33 year old BIlsteins showed obvious leakage
and they all have at least some gas charge, much to my surprise.

Again, I was thoroughly tarrred at supper time!!!

Ken H.
