We're just about finished with the conversion of my son Alan's middle and
rear brakes to discs. It's now time to disable the metering valve. I
disassembled and reported on the OEM combination valve back in '07:

The project would be easy if that were the valve on Alan's coach. It's
not. Someone before us replaced it with this one:

The combination valve is obviously still at the forward end of this one,
like the iron OEM version. However, where the OEM had a big (3/4"?) nut
retaining it, this one is much smaller (7/16"). The OEM version required
considerable force to extract the metering valve, but I wasn't concerned
about damaging it when I disassembled it. I didn't mind manhandling it.
This time, I'd like to avoid damaging anything, so I'm asking for help:
Has anyone disassembled one of these valves? If so, how do I extract the
metering valve so I can throw it away and seal its push pin hole? Does it
just pull out, like the old one? Or is there a hidden retainer which I
can't see without removing the whole thing (if you look at the condition of
the 5 brake lines in the photo, you'll see why I don't want to do that)?
Any help appreciated.
