I was sitting in a medical office earlier this week
waiting with my wife for her appointment.
The magazine rack had some "hot rod" magazines, so I
picked one up and looked it over, including the ads.
One particular ad REALLY caught my eye as it was for
an electrical water pump and associated system.
If one of these had been on my coach, the engine MIGHT
not have overheated and gone to knocking in the lower end!
Claimed benefits of "21st Century Engine Cooling Management":

If this would be a valid option for our coaches, I can see
that it COULD be an engine saver in the event of thrown belts!
I guess that it would act in series with the mechanical pump,
similar to having an electric fuel pump in series with stock
pump.
What say the Jims (K, B, and Hupy) and other gurus?
From personal experience, I am DEFINITELY interested!

If I throw all the belts, the alarm is going to scream at me for low voltage long before the engine heats up. Saves spending money for something else to fail.

Mac,
I'm not a Jim, but I do have some opinions:
First off, there's no way on God's green earth that it can provide "more
engine horsepower and torque" while providing equivalent or better
cooling. The simple act of generating the electricity to power the pump's
motor introduces losses which will consume "more engine horsepower and
torque" -- not leave more for you to use for other purposes.
As for how to connect it, putting it in series with the mechanical pump
MIGHT increase the water flow; but, if the mechanical pump fails it will
constitute such a restriction that the electrical one will have no chance
of cooling the engine.
Finally, if they're so great, why can't we find LOTS of them in the
junkyards? Surely all the auto manufacturers would be using them, on at
least some of their offerings.
I think they're designed primarily for racing: use it to moderate the
engine's temperature rise during maybe 5 minutes prior to the run, then
turn it off for the important minute or two.
JMHO -- let us know if they work! :-)

I suspect that if this cooling method resulted in any measurable amount of efficiency increase over a belt driven pump - and it might at some point, the electric power steering units do - we'd see them on production autos. The current push for economy is driving a lot of auto technology these days. My Mousetoad produces 33% more power on worse gasoline than my Datsun did with the same displacement ~~ 50 years ago. It gets about 30% better mileage as well.
