Netters
I had a brief glance at the Swepco site yesterday after someone mentioned
it on here.
http://www.swepcolube.com/products/swepco-306-supreme-formula-engine-oil
Of course I had a call today from a local retailer of the Swepco line.
Does anyone have an opinion on using HD #30 Swepco in my 403.
The engine only has a couple of long hauls left before it gets another
rebuild and since the factory manual said #30 I'm thinking..... should be a
good thing to do !
All opinions are welcome.

Ahhhhh, the OIL ?'s, well, I have had customers who only run 30w oil, nothing else, and pennzoil at that, and, after many, many miles, the intake had a leak so, I pulled it off and never seen such a clean inside of a cam valley in my life, is oil just oil, no, it is not, we , here at the shop, use only Rotella T, 15w/40 oil, why?, well it has the highest zinc content and we just do not have engine problems and trust me, for those of you who have not been here in S California, anywhere we go, we have to climb out of one of 4 mountain ranges so, lot's of hard hauling , and then, throw in our over 100 deg. days during the summer months.
I am sure Swepco oils are great, but, I did a search for them here in California, didn't find a thing, I may not be looking in the right places so, I did a dealer search and nothing, I can order it!, sure, but then, on my long travels, I would have to carry a load of it to take with me, when I can just pull into a wal mart and get the rotella t or any truck stop if need be and pay 10.28 per gallon and just add what I need and carry a full gallon with me.
I will say, everyone has their own opinion which oil is best so, use what you like and feel the best with and all will be okay

>Ahhhhh, the OIL ?'s,
Heh! You're on the web early this morning, Miguel.
I was mildly surprised that the known coach I just bought, with engine rebuilt by PO's-PO (a retired Delta mechanic) is running Amsoil.

Of the 25 or so AMSOIL gasoline engine oil blends; 3 have zinc. AMO 10w-40; ZRF 20w-50; and ZRT 10w-30.
I have used AMO in my 403 for 8 years. I change my fleet engine oils (and filter) once a year. I have
2 engine "saves" that I attribute to using synthetic; both aircooled engines that suffered a catastrophic
loss of oil. I am not a AMSOIL dealer; but believe in the product.

The oil link you gave is for API service SL oil. That is 3 designators prior to current SO standards. So it is an earlier type but new enough levels had been reduced. By API definition SL means phosphorus levels in the 600-1000 PPM range. That is below the recommended levels most find acceptable for non roller lifter engines. Keep in mind that levels drop as oil is put in service. Above 1300 there is no improved anti scuff property advantage. Above 1500 PPM the phoshorus starts to attack finished metal surfaces. The window is narrow so be careful with additives or you can do more harm than good. This is not an oil I would choose.

Guy's, I didn't even notice that, I just opened the 1st and fired away, your right, does have 1300ppm and so on, good oil BTW, I just cannot keep that many oils in my shop to cater to everyone, and remember, when I do an oil change, I also got to be sure the oil we use is top notch
