It looks like I'll be picking up a 23' GMC half way between San Diego and LA
to deliver to Andover, MA on Saturday, 4/19. Should be able to pickup and
deliver items for anyone willing to meet me on the route. I can slightly
re-route accordingly at this time.

Depending on the weather if there is snow predicted on that northern route interstate 40 or 10 could be a better choice at any rate it will be an adventure hope the 23 is road ready .

Guessing you won't hit too much snow unless you come across a freak storm, (in 1999 we hit a horrible snow storm coming home from my college visit the first weekend in May in VA/PA area. Unbelievable) but I'd probably route around the mountains as much as possible in an unfamiliar coach.
This isn't the most direct route, but in the interests of avoiding mountains, major cities, and I95, it might be worth a look

Hi Jeremy
Thanks for the suggestion. That would definitely be the best route in December and January. Just about take me back through home,
too. However, I've already driven most of it (Gallup to Knoxville). I'd like to see some "new to me" territory. The northern one
does that and it's the shortest. The extended forecast along the way indicates that I might not even run into a freezing night.
The furnace is said to work fine. (https://weather.com/maps/tendayforecast)
Still open to other suggestions.
Thanks again

If it was me I'd be more appreciative of the northern route as well. I just would wonder about the mountains in an unfamiliar GMC, but I'm also not that familiar with that area of the country. The flyover states aren't real scenic but fun to do once in my book. I'd avoid the Chicago area and their dual speed limit traffic nightmares, the PA Turnpike (narrow and bumpy), and I95. I'm sure others will have ideas as well.
Thanks,

Take is slow and enjoy the trip. I would stop and see things that I wanted to see along the way. It is about enjoying the trip and not about the time it takes. Stay away from northern IL, IN, and OH. Watch the speed limits in IL closely. There are different speed limits for RVs and trucks. They love to ticket out of state RVs even though their own people go like hell.

HI Steve
Probably so. It looks like a cream puff. All involved including Miguel
Mendez say it's not likely to have any issues. I'll be the first to know.
We'll see. :-)
And it's filled with fluids, has new tires, good bags, recent 400 mile
trouble free trip, minimal hand tools, circuit tester. I'll get a jack and
be taking a hook, socket and breakover, full coverage Insurance and towing,
...
What could go wrong? :-)

When I was a kid we used to travel from Tucson to Lebanon, PA on a regular basis. I have since done it as an adult a couple of times. We picked up I-40 in Amarillo and followed 40, 44, and 70 to Columbus OH. and on through Wheeling and Pittsburgh,to the PA Turnpike. The Will Rogers and Turner Turnpikes were the only toll roads that I remember on that route until the PA Turnpike. Nice roads and nice scenery all the way. The thing that struck me about that trip was the way the trees kept getting bigger and greener as we went north and east. My dad usually made a three day trip out of it. One time, with all three of my older sisters driving we made it on just over 48 hours. Not a fun way to travel in my book, but necessary back in the day for a working man and his family.
