I guess this is a kind of trip report... Camping World had an "indoor rv
event". They also had a sale on new merchandise. So Willie and I went to
take a look. What I saw made me appreciate our Glenbrook more than
ever...(if we ever get it back from rehab). The RV's they had there were
new and I have to tell you...most of them were junk with pretty faces
painted on them. They looked good at a glance, but once we started really
looking closely, it was apparent that some one was going to be real
disappointed in the near future with their purchase. And a lot of them had
sold signs on them. There was everything from doors that wouldn't close,
or stay closed, to rubber gaskets actually hanging off of the outside, to
being able to see the outside "laminate?" buckling before it even leaves
the lot!. And they just plain felt flimsy. I almost fell prey to this
deception when Willie first started talking about getting and rv, and we
went for a test drive in a Forester C class that I fell in love with.
UNTIL we went for a test drive... while I was driving about 5 miles away
from the dealership, an awful noise started under the hood. Now, I 'm not
a mechanic, but even I knew this thing was going to be a lemon, and when I
looked at Willie's face, my suspicions were confirmed. It looked really
good, but they were asking over $100,000 for a nice looking piece of junk.
That experience, and this past weekend, made me grateful that Willie had
the vision to recognize a classic quality machine. In the end, we will
have a better rv, that looks good and runs well, and a wonderful group of
people to boot, for hopefully less money than that. With the weather
warming, I am struggling to be patient for when we actually get to play in
it. And while we can't make it to Dothan, darn it, we are looking forward
to going to the Colonial Travelers Rally in May (looks like we will be in
our Escape). I have reached out through Colonial Traveler's website's
contact message to find out times and place. Look forward to meeting them,
and the rest of the great group of GMC people!

Couldn't agree more. When the wife and I were searching for the right machine we also stopped by Richmond RV and took a detailed look at a few class As, all brand new. Just as we arrived it started to rain, due to this we started off at the first row of Class As with the sales guy. We looked at a total of 3 before leaving in disgust:

RVs in order we looked at them, each one a different issue.

1) Water was leaking out of the passenger side ceiling trim.
2) Water was running down the dashboard.
3) Sales guy was demonstrating the retractable bed above the drivers compartment when one entire side jammed and broke off the track.

The sales guy didn't even try and make excuses, we left and bought our 77 and couldn't be happier.

Did you have the opportunity to view any of the new "touring coaches" '?
I have only seen magazine reports Of the Road Tek, Travato and Airstream Interstate but have wondered about the fit and finish. I was also curious if any of the fittings -- i.e., the bath module might be readily adapted to a GMC.

Thanks for the report.
