Finally picked up my first GMC in Minneapolis off to a pretty slow start. The seller was great, huge help but I have my hands full. All-in-all, a good coach with nice goodies, but in dire need of attention. My goal is to get it to Georgia.
Left airbag has a slow leak and what looks to be a stripped nut.
Onan not working, so I bought a compressor and (another) Honda generator.
Of all things, the wiper blades is what made me stop. Couldn't find a replacement. I managed to fix in the NAPA parking lot in Hudson, WI.
I am trying to make Indianapolis by tomorrow, but with the sagging, lopsided air suspension, watching closely. The right switch function but the left does not, so I've been filling to 80psi. It looks low and Jon confirmed it, suggested 90-100 but I can't find a gas station that goes that high. In the morning (holed up at Walmart in Hudson), I'll fire up the Honda generator and air compressor.

Any help, suggestions, comic relief is welcome.

I you would have realized by reading the net that all you ned was to call
us and we would gladly given you a part # and suggested to look for a truck
parts supplier like NAPA.

Tony:
I believe Ken Burton has a "loaner" air bag. You will be going close by his place. You may want to see if you can borrow it. Even if you don't put it on, you would have one if yours went out completely on the trip home.

Good to meet you Tony... was not too far out of my way.
On my drive home, I had two thoughts:
1st on your onan, I think your Starter bracket must be broke. They have been known to do that, and I think is usually caused by worn out mounts(fairly easy in expensive) to install new. For those reading, he has multiple problems with Onan. hitting start switch inside or outside does nothing. Shorting out the solenoid at the starter, the starter spins, but does not engage.
2nd, on the airbag.. If you were able to pump it to 90-100 psi, and it still drops on you with the shut off valve closed, I would remove the airline from that bag, and install the Shrader valve right to the bag with some new teflon tape. It may be that old shrader valve leaking, or even the shutoff valve not doing it's job. The airbags really look in pretty good shape compared to the one's that hold air on my coach.
I just looked on the web, there is a tire shop between Walmart and Fleet farm. "Tire Pro's and Wheel Experts" They will have enough air go get those airbags up to 90-100 psi. I think a good starting point is Measure from the grease zerk to the ground and make that measurement about 13 1/4 inches. take a look at the coach and it should just sit a hair lower in the rear. and try to get it the same side to side.
Tony got a great deal on a coach. Paint is good looking, has 16" aluminum rims and good tires, ragusa step, headers, chrome bumpers, and really has not been changed much from stock. at the price point he jumped in at, he is sitting pretty good in my opinion.

You have it correct.
Stop by here or call. We can also try to fix some of those things if you stop by. If I do not answer the phone, leave a message on the recorder and I'll return your call. I expect to be outside in my back yard planting a bird house pole tomorrow so I should be around here most of the day. The pole does not have to be done tomorrow so I can drop that and help you with your coach. If the number is busy, try again. I expect to be on the phone for a while helping a GMCer with an new Engenius Internet access device.
My unlisted home phone is on the "GMC Black list" under Hebron, IN.
If you want higher pressure air, simply stop by any truck stop and pull in to the truck diesel fuel islands. They all have high pressure air available for free.
Many of the automotive tire places like Walmart have air pressure regulators on their shop air to keep their tire monkeys from over inflating tires while seating the beads. So a truck stop is your best choice.
I believe Hudson, Wi is a suburb of, or near, Minneapolis. If so, then you are about 420 miles from me.

Tony, Install cut-off valve and schraders. Then, you can control the rear height easily. 90 pounds should get you home easily. Stop at Ken Burton's for his expertise and hospitality. Get a cheap wooden ruler (Dollar Tree?) and cut it to 8 5/8" long. Behind the rearmost wheel there is a oval slot in the frame. Place the cut-off ruler under the frame to measure the correct eight for the rear end. Adjust your airbag pressure until the ruler just clears under the frame, at the oval slot. Yes, when you look at the coach, it will slope to the rear. This is not an error, it is part of the suspension design.

I talked to one of our newest members and friend yesterday evening - Tony. He said everything seems to be running just fine. He chose to bypass Chicago completely and headed straight south into central Illinois. I don't blame him for talking that route as it completely eliminates all of the headaches of Chicago and also the ripoff Illinois toll road. So listen for him anywhere from central Illinois and central Indiana and on south. I am "guessing" he will or did take I-74 to Indianapolis and then I-65 south to Nashville and Georgia.
By taking that route he also bypassed my location in NW Indiana. Had he stopped here I was going to give him some measuring blocks for the rear ride height and look at his Onan starter problem. He can get by without both of them and work on those things later after he gets home.
After talking to him, I'm "guessing" that his Onan starter problem is electrical and not a broken bracket. Notice I said "guessing". I could easily be wrong. Then next time I talk to him I'll get his email address and send him Colonel Ken's nice wiring diagram on the Onan.
