Jared Kohl mentioned to me last year at the car show that this combo was still available when he got his plates:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/nocat-pics/p60111-new-antique-plate.html

So when it was time to renew the regular ones this month, I decided to do the antique plate deal.
And the combo was still available.

Thanks Jared!

Probably not. Just the change to a vanity antique plate.

Gene, In looking at your site for Michigan it states Authentic Plates are $85.00. Its actually $35.00 Not that it makes much of a difference.

I do love having a non-expiring registration with the authentic plate. Good as long as I take care of the coach.

I guess I don't understand Gene's question. The cost was $50 for lifetime "antique plate" registration and $10 for reserving the number/letter combo. If I wanted to use a "vintage" plate from 1973, the registration fees would have been the same as a regular plate, plus the "reservation" fee for what ever number/letter combo that was on the vintage plate. Pretty sure the vintage plate has to be the same year as the model year of the vehicle. And I think you have to renew the registration annually just like a regular plate. Is that what you wanted to know, Gene?

That's fine and you can post that info if you want. Just be sure and date it, because as we all know, when you go to the DMV,YMMV! Confused

In VA, you can use your own "antique" vintage model year based plate but the car being registered must match the year stamped on the plate. Virginia stopped doing model year plates in 1972 and moved to stickers in 1973. So the last year you can "bring your own plates" is for model year 72 and below. We have a 72 stamped actual vintage plate for my wife's 72 Bug.

Jared, do you have to renew that bug registration every year or 2 or 3? I didn't check for the GMC this time,(and as you say I would not have been able to put a vintage plate on a '73), but that was my main reason for not getting a set of those 15 years ago to put on my 1969 Firebird. I think I would also have to pay the "reservation" fee at every renewal, same as for a "personalized" (some say vanity)plate. If you have to renew yours then I guess the fee structure is still the same as it was.

No. It's a one time registration just like the antique tags they give you. The only caveat is if you want to register it as a "daily driver" you'd have to pay the regular annual registration. If you register it as an antique, you can use your own plates and the same antique rules apply.

Here is a link to the latest Antique license form and rules for Tennessee.
Fee is now $27.75, limits are defined and the use of vintage tag of same year model explained.

Antique plates in Georgia just don't make sense. $80 to order then $55 per year plus the normal renewal fees. Just like ordering a vanity plate. I never thought it was worth it.

The only worthwhile ones ar military retiree and national guard. The rest (In GA) are just moneymakers for the state. I put the retiree one on the Town n Country.
