OK, so after 3 days of digging, a hunnert bux of PVC and one broken sharpshooter shovel, I now have my very own dump station beside my driveway. Anybody needs to overnight on a trip, we can handle it. My coach is now the 'spare room' for people who can't handle dogs and/or cats in bed with them.

Johnny,

If you are a city sewer it is no issue, but if it is your own septic field, don't let anybody using Thetford Aqua-Chem or other formaldehyde based tank treatment dump there.

It kills off the bacteria that helps digest your septic system.

I'll answer for him: 'Cause formaldehyde kills the good bacteria in the
septic system. Not good for a city sewer system either, but the dilution
minimizes the impact.

For my part, the ONLY chemical I ever put in my GMC black water tank is
Rid-X, a septic tank enzyme. And that very rarely. Undisturbed by
chemicals, the good bacteria effectively treat the sewage. A thorough
rinse periodically to remove any heavy build up still leaves enough active
bacteria. The rinse is facilitated by a built in, homemade, tank flusher.
The ONLY time we ever get ANY odor is when the black tank gets almost
over-flowing, or someone flushes while the vent fan is running.

JWID,

Ken H.

Thanks for the heads - up. Having spent a modest fortuna last year to heal the system, I don't wanna jeopardize it now. So, stay the night but if you use wierd chemicals, dump down at Frady's on the way in.

Where did you buy the "official" dump station covered fixture to plumb in?

I didn't. I've simply a 4 inch plug which unscrews. My sewer hose adaptor screws into it.

Ken,

Thanks,
I posted that much answer then went out to do more on the coach.
I still have some things to do before departure. Nothing serious at this point.

Thanks guys, I was just curious.
When I arrive at your place and if you have a sewer system, make sure you
tell me it's broken, blocked or not working.
I have a habit of using formaldehyde just because I can.
I quit smoking 30 years ago, I can break this habit too !!

I use one of these after every couple trips and at the end of the season. It works better than any chemical I've found and is pretty simple if you have a hose handy.

Mike,
Are you likely to be at any of this years GMCMI??
If so, I could pass you an Aqua-kem collection.

I looked at the stuff I'd been throwing in the tank. "Biodegradeable" "NO Formaldehyde" "Safe". So I let it fly. Filled the water tank, pumped all of it into the blackwater, drained it as well. Dump works! Plus ever thing is clean and dry and ready for the trip to Gnashville next week. Sojourning at the Ag Center in Franklin just off Exit 61 on I 65. Decent whiskey, good food and cultural enlightenment. Yall come.
