New thread for the custom dash. Wood is not my favorite thing to work with, if I can't TIG weld it or cut with a Plasma cutter it's no good for me!

Slight progress, wood will be stained. Rocker switches are being replaced with toggle type, currently in the mail from Digikey. The headlight switch will remain the same, the wiper vertical actuator is being replaced with a choke pull type.

Radio is a "Media Player", no CD, so it's only 3.5" deep.

Previous owner for some reason spliced a bunch of the dashing wiring. When I pulled it half of them came loose, got lots of tracing and proper splicing to get finished.

Radio is a JVC Digital Media Receiver (KD-X320BTS), $80 Amazon Prime.

I've got one of these in my daily beater, works pretty good.

Only downside on the Media players, without a CD internal listening to books on CD becomes a chore.
Bringing Books ion CD to International for "Book Swap." Maybe we should rename it "Media Swap?"

All the gauges came from these guys:

Make in the USA, and a huge selection.

Having built a custom dash, I would buy a MAC dash.

I used VDO gauges, and put in a media player as well (Optical Media? How quaint).

MAC dash

I considered the MAC dash. Now that I've dug in behind the factory dash, I probably would have gone that way. All of my dash supports are broken, both the facing ring and vertical risers, found most of it in a pile during disassembly.

This factory plastic is unbelievably brittle, fixing it is almost impossible.

I wouldn't patch any of it, it's off-gassed to the point that the whole structure has lost mechanical strength. Fix A, B then breaks. You should fabricate & replace what you can. My Royale's dash supports decided to go belly-up a year *after* JimB had installed a Mac dash and done all the re-coloring. Luckily, JP came to my rescue with a solid donor dash and JimB performed a miraculous "open dash surgery" and transplanted just the driver's side.

I decided to hitch up the Speedo, poke around. Quick video showing all the available screens/pages available on this model. I'm impressed, appears quite nice, the display was a bit hard to get a clean video, looks very good in real life.

I also found two circuit boards behind the dash, just laying there. One was bare, the other is half covered in a white plastic enclosure, I see no mention of them in the maintenance manual, but need to look/dig further.

Think I got it. The one on the left appears to be part of a low coolant indicator, and when I wiggled the connector for the board on the right the low fuel light came on.

Andy,

You got it. That was what I was about to tell you. :-)

The coolant detector is located 8-10" from the top at the rear of the right
radiator tank.

The fuel warning reads from the 0-90 Ohm tank level sensor.

Both are shown on the wiring diagrams.

Since the dash upgrade got a new radio, the speakers also got upgraded.

Not much room under the factory plastic covers, and since I failed as a tape measure operator they ended up on the outside:

Andy,

I did that also, but not because of any measurement issue.

They simply would not fit over the head liner.

RC,

Glad to hear it worked out so well. When those polymer chains (plastic) start breaking down there's no fixing it. My current dashboard is still just some toggle switches mounted to a board, a couple of HF meters and a 40+ yr old Sears & Roebuck Tach/Dwell meter.
