So I bought the Applied 455 Intake gasket set with the stainless block off plates. All I received is the two gaskets and stainless inserts, no end gaskets and no basic instructions. As I've done about a zillion intake gaskets before I didn't think much of it till I read a few messages specifically mentioning them, then thought well heck I didn't get any, ha ha.
I'm assuming standard procedure?
- Thoroughly clean
- Use something like Permatex high tack sealant to glue gaskets to heads
- Use bead of RTV for end gaskets
- Try hard to not drop zillion pound intake during placement
- Torque bolt in proper order to 25lbs (just guessing need to look up torque)
- Celebrate with cold beer
Anything I'm missing, or special for the stainless inserts?
Many thanks

We acquire that gasket kit from Dick Patterson.
Dick and I have done enough engines to know that the rubber/plastic seal
tends to walk out , so a clean surface and a engine RTV works best.

Andy,
That kit is supplied to Applied by Dick Patterson. Below you will find a link to the page on his website (Springfield Ignition)
about the kit. Note the last sentence:
Installation instructions included. Permanent leak free and simple to install. Hundreds in use.
Give Dick a call or send him an email and I'm sure he'll get a copy of the installation instructions to you.

Guys, thanks to all, I should be good to go now.
Significant coach progress this winter:
- Manny 1-Ton Front end
- Headers, dual free flowing mufflers
- Intake X-over blocked
- Rebuilt carb, complete engine tune-up
- New dash insert with GPS speedo, Tach, coolant temp, volt, tranny and engine oil temp
- Tranny and final drive aluminum pans
That's all for this winter, can't wait for spring events to start!

Can you please post some info about the new dash insert with GPS speedo etc.
Will do, as soon as they are installed. How about a teaser pict? As soon as I'm done with the engine work, finishing the dash insert is next. Decided to go with GPS so I didn't have to fuss with the speedo gear change when/if I change the final drive.

Andy,
Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum....
Sorry, I did not notice when your arrived. I would have welcomed you then.
It sounds like you have things well in hand, but personally, I wonder if you actually did call Applied. I have never been on hold there for more than mere moments.
(I did have someone (not Nick) accidentally hang up on me once, but those things happen. - Have a sense of humor.)
Oh, and the simple rule for GMC parts is:
Order from Applied or one of the other good suppliers
UNLESS:
You are sure you can get the right part and need it RIGHT NOW.
You are on the road and there is no place to ship it too.... (Such as my fan clutch this year and I still got a part I don't like.)
The shipping will cost Way more than the part. (This one can be a snare as it assumes the part you can get is correct.)
Next, please go to Control Panel/Account Settings and build a sigfile. Use a real name (you can change your screen name too) so we know who you are when we meet (a very good chance there). A bit about the coach - year, upfitter/model and major mods and a geographic reference because those that read this as e-mail don't get to see the header.
There are rallies all around you during the better weather. The fall GMCMI will only be about a day away in Ohio. Get there if you possibly can. If you can't get time off, come for a few days of weekend. We will be glad to meet you.
Speaking of which, you are now part of an amazing community. Wonderful, supportive and helping (especially our resident Ornamental) people. The only way I know to really annoy them is to ignore the advice you get here. We do have a few original owners and many multi-decade and a few million miles of experience to back things up. The only community I know of that is like this is the watermen of my world and for that reason, I like to welcome new owners here much as a new owner or vessel is welcomed there. So,
May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within here.
Welcome Andy

I would add, when putting it on. I learned this from Dick Paterson. Make two studs. Cut heads off bolts and saw a screw driver slot in the ends. Put them on one side spaced nicely. Now you can put that heavy thing on the guide bolts like a hinge and then swing it down and into place. Put some other bolts in a bit and then use a screw drive to take the studs out.
Lowering it straight down is not easy. I have an aluminum and had a hard time getting it down straight even with it being much lighter. Dick's technique will make it like closing a door... a heavy door but a door.

One more manifold installation hint: Make you a handle. I take a piece of
PVC pipe, or stick of wood, or similar, and drill two holes in it. Put 3"+
long bolts through those holes into diagonally opposite carburetor flange
bolt holes. Lifting with that handle, which is near the manifold's center
of gravity, makes maneuvering to fit George's (and mine and many others')
studs MUCH easier.

Who is Allied, must be a copy cat of Applied.
I do not monitor orders as Nick and Gary handle orders and I just BS on the
phone and email, plus handle our Reps on Air Filter Housings.

Ha, Sorry, Applied, can't get the Electronics place out of my head.
Double Whammy, AL intakes are 4-6 weeks out so I canceled the order, on to plan C, whatever that is.

With luck, I don't have to any time soon (hope-hope), but I was thinking about "¿How could I put a handle on it?"
Well, I didn't finish the thought.
Like they say, what to know the easy way? Ask a lazy man, and engineer or KenH.

A mid length crescent wrench makes a nice handle.
And -- if you bridge across the front seats with a bar/2x4 and then use a come-a-long you can gently lower that heavy manifold down without getting hurt. I anchor the other end of the come-a-long to a 2x4 screwed to the floor or bridged across the cabinets near the floor.
