Hello,
People who have installed a dig-panel or similar gauges I have a couple questions. Did you pipe in a second oil pressure sender or use the original with two leads? If i were to add a second sender how much pressure should it handle on the upper end.
Thanks!

Digig Panel is designed to T to the original sender . Should you disconnect
the original lead to the sender, you will not get a reading.
It is a very easy unit to hook up to.
If anyone is interested in acquiring one, they have stopped production and
have asked if we will want to get involved in assembly of them.
I am still deliberating.

DigiPanels come in two Flavors. The "J" model parallel connects to the the OEM sender and the OEM system must be operating for that setup to work. The "J" model will not work with a dedicated sender, Just went thru this with the stretch. When Buskirk built my coach. the OEM wiring was omitted. A PO tried to make a "J" model DigiPanel work, but it did not until I ran a wire between the sender and the OEM gauge. Buskirk had installed a bourdon tube oil pressure gauge and I guess thought that the OEM gauge was unnecessary. You can get a DigiPanel that has the circuitry in it for a dedicated sender. If you have questions about the DigiPanel, email Art at digidevicesinc@gmail.com. He is very helpful.

I am actually working on a little winter project that will uses a micro controller to meter engine temp, transmission temp, oil pressure, and voltage. I will be able to monitor the readings on my phone (works with iOS and android) and I will be able to log the engine and trans temperatures on a SD card that in the micro controller. So far everything seems to be working well. For anyone interested I will update the forum when I get a little closer to finishing.
Which would be preferred a second oil pressure sender or piggy backing off the OEM one?

Matt,
I have never heard of the megasquirt, seems like a pretty cool board with an unfortunate name. One idea I had was to set up a wireless sensor network to monitor the house system and replace all those balky 40 year old senders. I really like this new e-tape liquid level sensors. Supposedly even rated for use in gasoline. Probably is more trouble and expense than its worth though. There are also some cheap flow sensors on various sites that use PWM to record flow rates, again supposedly rated for fuel. I think it would be great to see how much fuel I used on a trip, but I hate to trust my life/trip to a $20 plastic sensor.

Mac,
We generally bring in about 5ea. at a time as they are not the faster
sellers, but the most valuable instrument.

Well,
A group buy might be in order if we are going to start assembly of these
units.

Jim, have you a source for the circuit boards? If there's a job shop already set up to etch and drill them, they ought to be fairly cheap. The box is going to be the most costly part. Get a stack of the boards and you can built up a btach of five or ten when you need them.
I find mine more valuable than a logger or a phone sending gauge, even if I had such a phone (I have a $15 phone from WalMart. I talk on it). The DigiPanel gets a test when I fire up the coach. Then, should something get out of tolerance like a dying alternator, it squawks a me and gets my attention.

I am pretty high on the product Jim. I don't know what your margin would be but I believe you'd sell some both inside and outside the GMC community. I expect Art can/has provided sales figures for your consideration.

Kerry / JimK et al,
I must apologize I missed the bit about Art ceasing manufacturing of the Digi Panel.
If you do start to make them I would suggest that instead of hard wiring all the leads to the box each pair have a removable
connector of some kind.
I asked Art about that once and he noted he hard wired them to keep the cost down, however, AFAIC having connectors would be well
worth any reasonable extra cost.
Oh yeah, I too am high on this product and will be buying one for the Kingsley.

I'm to go down to meet him with my guy and see what he wants for all these
and negotiate and see if it is feasible.

Jim,
Just to be sure you keep it in mind: I agree with Rob about not hard
wiring everything. I've admired the DigiPanel for years, but only from
afar because I didn't care for the packaging and output. I'd prefer to
integrate the basic circuit board into my custom panel with the readouts
provided at each of the related instruments. That could easily be a
optional variation.

Ken,
Art liked to keep things simple, however I have no problem listening to
people and doing things that will make the unit more friendly to use and
available in component parts when needed by people.
I'll know more after meeting with him.

In regards to the digipanel....what advantage does it have over guages with alarms built in that a person can adjust....so the guage gives the reading and will sound an alarm if the reading is to low or high.....Brian 77 ele 455
