Werewilfs: Love the pictures, and this might work for us.... It is
unclear to my eye where the screen itself goes in the coach? The
retractable one seems self explanatory, it is self contained it looks
like. But in the other one with the regular screen, where would the
sliding part go, since it looks like a regular screen door? In one of the
pictures, it looks as if the cabinet is attached to the coach where the
screen door would have to slide. Could you say more about that, please?

Pete, I look forward to seeing Jareds and other's screen door solution...
Thanks! Nancy

I've seen Jareds screen door and it is really neat solution........

Pete

There is an easy and inexpensive one that you can make for a curved wall motor home such as our GMC.

You use fiberglass screen material that is flexible like cloth. Make it about six inches wider than your opening and several inches taller.

Use a small cafe curtain rod above the top inside of the door. Use a rod that is about six inches or more than the width.

Sew a pocket in the top and in the bottom. The curtain rod fits into the top pocket and you put a length of chain into the bottom pocket.

When you want to use the screen, open the door and move the chained bottom outside. The weight of the chain will hold the screen tight against the sides and the bottom.

To enter or exit the motor home slide the screen on the rod to one side. You can also store it by sliding it to one side with the chained bottom inside the GMC.

The chain should be heavy enough to hold the bottom down if you have any wind.

This has worked very well for us for many years.

Hi Nancy,

The canister that the screen rolls into is on the right side and the magnetic catch is on the left side. We cut out a groove for the whole canister to fit on the right hand side. I'll get you some more detailed pictures of how it all fits together tomorrow.

And since you live in Maryland, you can see it in person at the Crabs and Colonial Travelers first joint rally of the year in Gettysburg as well. (3rd weekend in May - details soon) Hope you'll be able to make that.

One more idea:

Here is a photo I took of a Coach at the Ammana GMCMI Rally. It is a solid screen door and opened into the coach resting up against the Fridge module. Im sorry I do not know the owners name to give credit to but the workmanship was great.
