Out of the choices of Stand Alone No Contract Hot Spots, who is having good luck (4LTE)and with which brand? Not interested in Hot Spots that are part of a smart phone, but stand alone units. Looked at Wal-Mart, and there are at least 5 choices.
Any one have a comparison to MiFi 4LTE Hot Spot with ATT FastDSL (greatly mis-named).
Any one using one as their full time WiFi connection, even at their home?

Hi Tom,

Our race teams, use both the Sprint and Virgin Mobile Hot Spots in our coaches.

Virgin Mobile has a good pay-as-you go plan. http://www.virginmobileusa.com/mobile-broadband-plans/broadband-2-go/overview/

I find the biggest difference in service providers is the quality of service in the area you are traveling. In major centers most of the providers have good service but regional service can be limited in most areas with a smaller population.

I recommend first looking at were you plan to use the service the most, and then select the provider with the best coverage.

The cheapest plan, turns out to be the most expensive, if it does not work were you need it Confused

Thomas,

I bought a 3G UMTS router from Straight Talk via Walmart. Worked for me
in the VA area where it was needed. Will know more about it during
Summer while touring the north east.

>Sprint and Virgin Mobile

Unless it's changed, Virgin uses the Sprint backbone. Sprint works OK in urban/mid-size city areas but I found it was all but useless in small-town NC.

BTW, most private brand cell services use Sprint or T-mobile, both tend to suck in rural areas.

I believe some here (Johnny?) use Karma

Tom,

For my trip to the West Coast in '13, I bought and used a Millenicom MiFi.
At that time, it was $69 per month, with no contract, for 20GB (which they
didn't monitor very carefully and didn't cut off then). It used the
Verizon network and the Verizon MiFi receiver (which they sold for $99).
That was an extremely satisfactory solution; the 20GB was more than
adequate for 16yo Dennis and me. When SHE showed up and started streaming
movies, I had to retrain (HA!) HER. It was at least as fast as the 2GB
down rate we get on our AT&T DSL.

Unfortunately, Millenicom is no more -- Verizon assumed all of their open
contracts in Nov '14. I don't know whether they offer(ed) anything similar
to the original plan because I was no longer active with them at that
time. I still have the JetPack, and know that I could activate it on my
current Verizon if I were willing to pay a slight fee. With an smartphone
capable of acting as a 5 user hotspot, I no longer have any reason to
consider it.

If you haven't already found it, this site seems to stay abreast of current
RV internet options:

If you have Comcast at home, you can use their Hot Spots when traveling.
